School Drill Reminders

Throughout the year, students and staff participate in safety drills designed to prepare everyone for unexpected situations and to meet district and state guidelines. On March 4, students participated in a tornado drill, and each month we also practice a fire drill to reinforce safe evacuation procedures.

During the month of March, we will also practice a Lockdown drill. This drill is practiced to help ensure that students and staff know how to respond in the event of an immediate threat inside or near the building. The drill is conducted with the assistance of law enforcement and has already been taught, discussed, and practiced in classrooms.

Our teachers work carefully to explain these drills in ways that help students understand their importance without causing fear or unnecessary stress. If you have any questions about this drill or any of our school safety practices, please feel free to reach out to the administration.

Promotion Letters and Retention

Each grade level participated in Promotion Meetings with administration to discuss students who are performing below expectations. Students not performing as expected will receive letters by mail during the upcoming week.

During Promotion meetings, the team carefully reviewed relevant data to determine whether a letter would be sent home for students with academic or attendance concerns. Teachers were also encouraged to communicate with parents if letters would be sent home. This should not be the first time that concerns are communicated.

Please note that at this time decisions regarding retention have NOT been made regarding any student. Our primary goal is to partner with families to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed. Together, we will do everything we can to promote our students with confidence and a prepared to be successful in the next grade.

Raise Craze Week 1 Recap

Our kindness-driven fundraiser is off to a fantastic start! As of Thursday, Ms. Abel’s 1st grade class is leading in the percentage of students registered.

So far, 60 students have registered, over 500 Acts of Kindness (AOKs) have been completed toward our school-wide goal of 1,500, and $3,455 has been raised toward our $23,000 goal

Students have been spreading kindness in so many ways - helping classmates, doing chores at home, and brightening someone’s day with kind words. Parents and guardians, please remember to log in and check off your student’s completed AOKs on the website!

There’s plenty of time to get involved, spread kindness, and help support Wiley. Read the full details and register here.

Grounds Volunteers Needed
Calling All High Schoolers: Help Wiley and Earn Service Hours

Do you have a high schooler or know one in need of service hours? Wiley PTA is launching a Junior Sustainability Committee this spring! We’re inviting high school students to help with grounds work at Wiley every weekend in April and early May, with two-hour volunteer shifts available. It’s a great way for older students to give back to their elementary roots—plus it helps keep our campus looking beautiful for our Wiley students!

Leave a Legacy at Wiley with a Brick - Thank you!

We are excited to share the results of this year's Legacy Bricks campaign — and we couldn't be more proud of what this community accomplished together.

Thanks to the generosity of 23 contributing families, we raised $2,510 during the campaign. That support was more than enough to cover the cost of commemorating the entire 5th-grade class on a set of engraved bricks listing every student's first name along the walkway to Wiley Elementary. What a way to celebrate our graduates!

Bricks are estimated to be installed in May/June, so keep an eye out for them on your way into school!

As a reminder, all funds raised through this campaign directly support the Wiley Elementary Foundation's mission: to enrich every Wiley student's experience by supplementing teacher and staff funding beyond what Wake County Public Schools provides. This critical funding helps expand elective offerings, increase student choice, support smaller class sizes, and strengthen the programs that make Wiley such a special place.

Spirit Rock Fairy

The Wiley Elementary Foundation is thrilled to announce a new initiative for 2026 - the Spirit Rock Fairy. Similar to the Book Fairy, families will be able to purchase spirit rock days that will then be donated to fellow Wiley families. To contribute, simply sign up via the existing Signup Genius in the first spots labeled “Spirit Rock Fairy.” Thank you so much for continuing to make Wiley a place in which every student feels supported and celebrated! For any questions, feel free to reach out to Carly Eklund at carlyeklund@gmail.com.
