Principal Message 5-8-26

PTA newsletter link: https://www.wileypta.org/pta-newsletter

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who showed appreciation for our staff through donations, kind words, and thoughtful gestures during Teacher Appreciation Week. Your support means more than you know and serves as a powerful reminder to our teachers that their hard work, dedication, and impact are truly valued.

We are also proud to share that in our recent Teacher Working Conditions survey, 100% of respondents agreed that Wiley is a great place to learn and work. That positive culture is made possible in large part because of our AMAZING PTA and the continued generosity and encouragement of our families. It truly takes a village, and we are so grateful to be part of this one with you!

It is never too late to thank a teacher! Our Teacher Shout Outs will remain open for the rest of the school year, so if you would like to share one more note of appreciation or recognize a staff member who has made a difference, we encourage you to do so.

Panorama Survey

Help us make your child’s school experience as positive and beneficial as possible by giving honest, thoughtful responses to the questions in our family survey from April 6 - May 15. https://bit.ly/FamilySurveyWCPSS

Wiley Purposity

We’re excited to share that our school is now on Purposity, a non-profit app that connects our community with real, immediate needs right here at Wiley. Through the app, our social work team can post specific requests—like school supplies or essential household items—for students and families. Community members can then meet those needs in just a few clicks, often for around $30, making a direct and meaningful impact.

Download the Purposity app for free, search Wiley Magnet Elementary School, and tap Follow or visit here: https://purposity.com/organization/WileyInternationalStudiesMagnetElementarySchool

Celebrating Farm to School Week: Flavors of NC!

Child Nutrition Services is excited to celebrate Farm to School Week from May 11–15 with this year’s theme, “Flavors of NC Week!” Throughout the week, students will enjoy activities and menu features that highlight North Carolina agriculture, healthy foods, and community involvement.

Here’s what is planned for the week:

  • Monday – NC BBQ Meal: More than 50% of the menu items featured will come from North Carolina suppliers.

  • Tuesday – Taste Test Tuesday: Students across the district will have the opportunity to try North Carolina-grown produce.

  • Wednesday – Work Together Wednesday: Central Office staff will visit schools to help clean and support community gardens while encouraging community involvement in local garden efforts.

  • Thursday – Artsy Thursday: Cafeteria managers will create fun edible art displays using fruits and vegetables on serving lines.

  • Friday – Farmer Friday: Students and staff are invited to dress like a farmer to celebrate the week!

Questions about the 2026-27 budget?

The 2026-27 budget has been a hot topic as of recent. We have heard many questions. In an effort to keep communications open, we are trying to understand your questions about the impact to the Wiley budget.  Please let us know and we can work with Mr. Avery to do our best to answer these. You may ask your questions here.

Science Night, Tuesday, May 19 5:30 -7pm

We are excited to announce Wiley's 2nd Annual Science Night! It will be held on May 19th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. Huge thanks to the Wiley PTA for making this event possible!

In order for Science Night to be a success, we need volunteers to help run ten different activities on campus. Volunteers will sign up for one activity and lead students through that activity over the course of the evening. All supplies and instructions will be provided. Please note that volunteers will need to be at Wiley from 5:00 - 7:15 pm on the evening of the event to set up and clean up their activity

Volunteer spots still open! If interested in volunteering, use this link to sign up. If you have any questions, please contact Hadley Cairns-Heath at hcairns-heath@wcpss.net.

Final Quarter

As we enter our final quarter, interim reports will be sent home on May 4. As we wrap up an incredible school year, we ask for your continued support in reinforcing routines and expectations at home. Please talk with your child about staying focused, engaged, and respectful, as this time of year is just as important—if not more—than when we began.

Together, we can help all students finish strong, remain safe, and stay committed to their learning through the final weeks of school. Thank you for your partnership in making this a successful end to the year!
