Kindergarten Orientation Thursday, May 28

Kindergarten Orientation will be held next Thursday, May 28, from 2:00–3:00 PM. Families with rising kindergarten students are invited to join us for an overview of our kindergarten program and to learn more about what to expect for the upcoming school year.

If you have friends or neighbors with a child entering kindergarten, please help spread the word! Now is the perfect time to register for kindergarten. All rising kindergarten families are encouraged to attend orientation to learn more about our school, meet staff members, and prepare for a successful start to the 26 - 27 school year.

Six Summer Books Can Make All the Difference!

Did you know that reading just six books over the summer can help prevent — and even reverse — the “summer slide”? To support your child’s learning, our teachers have created a list of suggested books for each upcoming grade level. Families are encouraged to choose from these recommendations or create their own reading list together.

When selecting books, remember that a “just right” book matches your child’s reading level while also connecting to their interests. Encourage your child to challenge themselves by exploring both fiction and nonfiction text, along with familiar favorites and new topics. Most importantly, keep reading all summer long — every page makes a difference!

Classroom Rosters for the 2026–2027 School Year

Grade-level teams are currently working thoughtfully to create class rosters for the 2026–2027 school year. Teachers collaborate  with their team using relevant data to build balanced classroom communities that support student success.

Teachers carefully consider several factors, including academic needs, learning styles, peer relationships to develop balanced classroom rosters. They take into account which students work well together as well as combinations that may be less successful or prove to be an issue.

During this process, please share any information that you feel necessary with your child’s homeroom teacher. If you strongly feel that your child should not be placed with a specific student, this information should be communicated as soon as possible to your child’s teacher. Rosters may continue to change over the summer as students come and go. 

Once rosters are finalized, teacher assignments will be made. If you believe your child would benefit from a particular teaching style or classroom environment, these details can be shared with me over the summer for consideration. While requests for specific teachers are not typically honored, we value family input and will carefully consider all information shared as we work to assign teachers and create balanced and supportive learning environments for every student.

Finishing the Year Strong!

We have just 14 more days of school left with many more exciting end-of-year activities and celebrations planned for students. Our classrooms and grade levels continue to work hard to create meaningful peak experiences that we for every student to enjoy and participate in.

During end-of-year celebrations and events, families are welcome to check students out through the homeroom teacher if desired, but this is not required. 

As excitement builds, we ask for your support in reminding students that school expectations and behavior rules still apply. Unsafe or highly disruptive behaviors will impact a student’s ability to attend or participate in special activities and events and we want every child to finish the year positively, safely, and successfully.

Wiley Purposity

We’re excited to share that our school is now on Purposity, a non-profit app that connects our community with real, immediate needs right here at Wiley. Through the app, our social work team can post specific requests—like school supplies or essential household items—for students and families. Community members can then meet those needs in just a few clicks, often for around $30, making a direct and meaningful impact.

Purchase Your 2026-27 School Supplies

Wiley PTA has partnered with EPI through June 16 to make back-to-school shopping easy. For each child, simply order one grade-level pack and one “All Lang. & Elective Classes” pack. School supply packs will be delivered directly to your child’s classroom.

 

You can also support students in need by adding extra packs to your cart and labeling them “Donation” (include first and last name).

Join the Wiley Band!

All 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are eligible to join the Wiley Band for the 2026-27 school year! No prior music experience is needed.

 

Band practice takes place before school, 8-9 a.m. For Beginning Band, practices are on Mondays and Wednesdays. For Continuing Band, practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

You don’t need to own an instrument to sign up; families can select and rent their instruments instead. In September, we’ll hold a Band Interest Meeting at Wiley where you can learn more.

 

While the Wiley Band is supported through the PTA, tuition donations are required to cover our Band Director and instructional supplies. For the 2026-27 school year, the minimum tuition donation is $520.

Lost and Found Donation 

Be sure to check the latest items in Lost and Found. Students can look during lunch, and parents are welcome to stop by during school hours. And remember, labeled items are never donated.

What is the Wiley Elementary Foundation?

The Wiley Elementary community is fortunate to have three nonprofits to support three distinctive causes. The Wiley Elementary Foundation’s role is to provide supplemental funding for staff salaries. Spirit Rock Fairy

The Wiley Elementary Foundation is thrilled to announce a new initiative for 2026 - the Spirit Rock Fairy. Similar to the Book Fairy, families will be able to purchase spirit rock days that will then be donated to fellow Wiley families. The Cecilia Rawlins Fund wants to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this spring so special. Thanks to the Wiley community and our friends, the Cecilia Rawlins Fund had two successful community and fundraising events this spring, raising more than $8,400! Jeff Whiteside’s famous BBQ sold out with rave reviews, and Elite Fire Taekwondo’s festival and kick-a-thon brought so much fun and energy. Both events were an incredible success – and because of you, the Cecilia Rawlins Fund is able to continue supporting Wiley families in meaningful ways.
