Wakefield Artists Award Winners
Congratulations to the following students for winning 1st place in the Woman's Club State Art Competition! Oliver Olesen, Rachel Franciscy, Soula Jones, and Sophia Lopez. Abigail Godwin placed 2nd. A big congratulations to our double winner at the State Art Competition, Jose Pacheco- Hernandez for his stunning chaotic wood sculpture and his self-portrait. Great job!
February 2026
- Caroline Rhoad was selected as the 2026 Rachel Rivers-Coffey NC High School Journalist of the Year. In addition to a $3,000 scholarship, Caroline will represent Wakefield as she competes for the title of National Journalist of the Year. The Wakefield Howler has been an essential training ground for top notch writers and journalists who have gone on to great careers in the field. This will be the first time a Wakefield student has been selected for the prestigious award and scholarship. You can read more about this competitive award HERE at the NCSMA website.

Wakefield sophomore QB Quinn Pope was named the MaxPreps North Carolina Player of the Year for the Fall 2025 Flag Football season. Quinn threw for 3426 yards and 57 TDs. She also ran for 618 yards and 15 TDs. She is the first player from North Carolina to ever receive this recognition.
