Student Illness

With the large number of flu cases in our area as well as the many viruses that circulate after traveling, please be sure to review the following guidelines from the NC Emergency Guidelines for Schools when making decisions regarding whether to send your child to school or keep them home.  This will protect your child as well as others who may be immunocompromised or have family members who are.  The following conditions will require students to be sent home, so please be proactive and do not send your child if they are experiencing any of the following to prevent the spread of illness that could cause the widespread loss of school days:

  • Fever of 100.4 degrees or higher without the use of fever reducting medication
  • Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea
  • Severe Headache
  • Red, watery eyes with yellow discharge
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Inability to attend to learning activities
  • Change in a student's medical status

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration for the 2026-27 school year is now open.  Be sure to register early to secure your seat and deliver all requested documents as soon as possible.

Eating Lunch with Your Child

To make the experience a special one for you and your child in the midst of our busy days, we will not be having extra friends join your duo while eating in the cafeteria together.  This is also due to space needs and to ensure that you remain aware of the adults who your child is sharing their lunch with.  Please arrive in plenty of time to check in before your child's lunch so you can enjoy the entire special time with them.

Out of Country Access to WakeID & WakeID Apps

If your child needs to access Canvas or other WakeID apps while you are of the country, we need to request access from the county. Please complete this form at least 5 days before your trip. It takes several days to request and receive access. This is only for White Oak Elementary students. If you have a middle or high school student, please contact their school for more information on their process.  https://forms.gle/wowFtdLKQ9zAzsM8A

2025-26 Instructional Focus

To continue to grow all learners at White Oak, our instructional focus this year will be on increasing reading proficiency and adding rigor to core instruction.  We want to grow our students' applied Reading skills for future academic success and to support real-life reading for functional needs as well as enjoyment.  Rigor means adding more higher-level thinking opportunities for all students to support growth in the important 4 C's (collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking) that we are charged to develop in our Explorers alongside their academic skills.  Watch for messages expanding on these in the future and continue to read with your children with discussions afterward.  Reading is a gift that is best enjoyed together!

WCPSS Technology Policy

In accordance with North Carolina House Bill 959 and WCPSS Board policy 4318, White Oak students may bring personal cell phones or smart watches to school but they must silenced and in backpacks for the entirety of the school day, from bell to bell.  According to School Board policy,  exemptions are only for health plans, communication needs, emergencies, administrator-approved translations, safety plans, or assistive communication.   The first violation of this will result in a reminder and should a violation occur again the device will be confiscated for parents to pick up.  Thank you for reinforcing this with your child to protect instructional time.

Carpool Safety

  • Remain in your car at all times, allowing TREK patrol and adults to open doors and assist unloading
  • Ensure your child is ready to unload as soon as you pull up with shoes on, backpacks ready, and any loose items in their hands
  • Do not pass cars at anytime
  • Remain calm and respectful to other drivers to ensure safety and a positive climate for all--your children are learning from you!
  • No unloading may be done in the bus loop except for students who have prior approval.  This must be left open for our buses and vans
