Maverick Message for January 4, 2026

 

NEW CAMPUS INFORMATION

 

Urgent update regarding open house planned for January 5: Due to some last minute inspections, we will not be able to host our planned open house on January 5. We hope that we can allow students to drop in on January 6 to find their classrooms, and I will let you know on Monday if that will be possible. Either way, we will not be able to host a general session in the auditorium as planned. Instead, please view the video of the session we were planning. 

 

What is the Bell Schedule?

 

How will bus transportation work? All buses, including the one to Green Hope High School, will serve both campuses with a slightly adjusted pick-up time in the mornings. Please consult Infinite Campus for specific pick-up and drop-off times for your assigned bus. Questions? Contact Ms. Miranda (gmiranda@wcpss.net). 

 

Can the new campus accommodate student drivers? Yes, but spaces are limited. If your student drove to school last semester, they should park in a visitor spot at the new campus. We will issue them a parking tag soon. If your student gets their license this semester and would like to apply for a parking pass, they will need to contact the main office for information. We will issue parking passes until spots are filled. Please view the video above for more information.

 

How will carpool work at the new campus? Parents will enter and exit campus via the entrance on Little Drive and students will be dropped off directly in front of the school. This process is much more similar to a traditional school carpool loop than what we currently have on the WTCC campus. Please view the video above for more information.

 

Will there be any changes at the WTCC Campus? The carpool process will take less time, especially in the afternoon, but there will be fewer staff members to help with the line. Please be mindful of traffic and pedestrians. Students will have a grade-level assembly on the first day back to school to review a few adjustments that will occur now that there are fewer students on campus. 

 

Information on Weather-Related School Delays and Cancellations (Updated Information): If winter weather affects our area, our school will follow any delays or cancellations announced by Wake County Public Schools (WCPSS). Wake Tech may occasionally make a different decision, but our families should follow the WCPSS schedule. The district may call for a complete cancellation of school or for a remote learning day. Please see this letter for information about remote learning days.

Driver’s Education Classes for Spring 2026: Spring 2026 Registration for Driver's Ed opens on January 14 at 1:30 PM. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the class is full, the registration window will close for all students. All registration is managed by Jordan Driving School. To prepare:

  • Log in at your assigned time.

  • Have all required documents ready.

  • Choose the correct session for your school and schedule (for WECIB, choose Private/Charter).

Winter Sports Photos: Our yearbook team is working hard to highlight all the amazing things our students are doing this year—including winter sports! We would love your help capturing these moments. Support for Families Facing Food Insecurity: We understand that times are difficult, and we want to ensure every student has access to healthy, nutritious meals each day.

  • Free and Reduced-Price School Meals: If your family is experiencing challenges with food access and you are not currently receiving free or reduced-price school meals, please visit this link for more information and to complete the online application. 

  • Food Finder Resource: Families can use the Wake County Food Finder to locate pantries and distribution sites nearby. The site also lists community meal programs and other food assistance opportunities available throughout the county.

Annual Testing Calendar: We have created a comprehensive testing calendar for the year. This includes Pre-ACT/PSAT/ACT, Workkeys, EOCs, AP Exams, college final exams and high school final exams. Please add these dates to your calendar as appropriate for the grade level of your student. 

 

Comprehensive Permission Forms: To help streamline the permissions process, we are using one Comprehensive Permission Form to collect consent for multiple student privileges this school year. This includes:

  • Parking on Wake Tech’s campus (students with permission to drive to school last year do not need to resubmit paperwork).

  • Off-campus lunch (11th and 12th grade only and are due by Friday, August 29 for this semester; $10 online fee required and must be paid via School Cash Online (link here)

  • Walking off campus at dismissal

  • Self check-out for the Morrisville shuttle

  • Permission for early dismissal upon conclusion of high school classes when WTCC is not in session (11th grade only)

  • Permission for early dismissal upon conclusion of AP exam and high school exam period (December and May)

You can pick and choose which permissions to authorize and which to decline. The form must be completed, signed by both the parent/guardian and student, and either notarized or signed in person at the main office. Please complete and return the form as soon as possible if your student will be participating in any of these activities. Afternoon Carpool Pickup (WTCC Campus): Unless students are in a supervised after school activity (e.g., 5th Period), students should be picked up by 2:30. Students are not allowed to hang out on campus unless under the direct supervision of a teacher for an after-school activity. 

  • Carpool students needing pick-up after 2:30: Students are allowed to walk off campus to the adjacent shopping center (with coffee shops) with parental permission. Use this form to give permission. Please note that the form should be signed by both student and one parent in the presence of an office staff member. Come to the front office for assistance. If this is not possible, the form should be notarized. 

  • Public Transportation: Some students utilize public transportation (e.g., Morrisville Shuttle), which picks up on campus. Students must wait for the shuttle at the designated bus stop. Pick up times vary in the afternoon and on occasion, it picks up a few minutes before our dismissal. If you would like to authorize your student to take advantage of a pick-up before the end of the school day,  please complete this form and we will keep it on file. The student just needs to check out in the office before leaving. Please note that the form should be signed by both student and one parent in the presence of an office staff member. Come to the front office for assistance. If this is not possible, the form should be notarized. 

 

Athletic Tryouts at Green Hope High School: Please see this link for specific details regarding athletic tryouts. Wake Tech Warn: Wake Tech WARN is the official emergency alert system of Wake Technical Community College and is used to distribute critical emergency information. In the event of an emergency or inclement weather situation, Wake Tech WARN allows the college to notify students, staff, and registered community members. Parents should go to this link to register for alerts.  If you have registered for this previously, you do not need to register again.

Free and Reduced Lunch: In order for your child to receive free or reduced lunch, you must apply each year. The application is available at this link:  https://www.wcpss.net/student-life/school-meals/freereduced-meals 

 

Pre-pay for School Meals: With a MySchool Bucks account. paying for school meals is easy. Go to www.MySchoolBucks.com or call (855) 832-5226 to enroll. You'll need your child's student ID number, available in Infinite Campus Once your account is established you may:

  • Securely deposit funds to your child's account

  • Check balances

  • Set spending limits
