10/19/25 Principal's Message - English

Greetings Dolphin Families,

Welcome back, Dolphin families! We hope your fall track out was relaxing, refreshing, and filled with time to recharge and reconnect. As we dive into Quarter 2, we’re excited to continue building on the great momentum from the start of the school year. Let’s return ready to learn, grow, and make this next quarter our best one yet!

NC Middle School Honors Chorus: We are excited to announce that 3 Durant Road Middle School students have been selected for the prestigious NC Middle School Honors Chorus! This is the highest honor for music literacy and choral singing in North Carolina and a testament to the high-impact teaching provided by our incredible choral director, Mr. Little.  Congratulations to Oliver Galloway, Ryder Jay, and Alvin Shen. The NC Middle School Honors Chorus concert will be held at the Benton Convention Center, Winston-Salem, NC.  Way to go, Mr. Little! We are so proud of you and our students!

Campus Beautification Day: A huge thank you to Summit Church for spending their Saturday morning with us during our Campus Beautification Day! Their team of around 25 volunteers worked hard trimming bushes, cleaning up leaves, and spreading fresh mulch to make our school grounds look amazing. We also appreciate the families who came out to lend a hand and show their support. Your teamwork and community spirit truly make a difference!

Unity Day: October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and on Wednesday, October 22nd, Durant Road Middle School will join schools across the nation in celebrating Unity Day! This special day is all about standing together for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We encourage all students, staff, and families to wear orange to show their support and to send a clear message that no student should ever experience bullying. Let’s fill our halls with orange and unity as we take a stand together!

Report Cards Coming Home: Quarter 1 Report Cards will be sent home on Friday, October 24.

Cell Phone Policy: As we return, we want to remind families and students that cell phones must remain off and stored in backpacks during the school day. This helps keep our learning environment focused and safe for everyone. Students did a fantastic job following this policy during quarter 1. Thank you for supporting our policy and helping students stay engaged in their learning!

Choice School applications are now open: Do you have a neighbor not attending DRMS? Invite them to come check us out. We are a great year-round option! Enrollment applications for magnet, year-round, and early college schools are now open. Visit the WCPSS website to learn about program options and eligibility. The application window closes on Dec. 12 for early colleges and Jan. 22 for magnet and year-round schools. Learn more
