Update on the 2026-27 budget process

The Wake County Board of Education on Tuesday received an early preview of the Superintendent’s proposed operating budget for the 2026-27 school year. School district leaders are working to build a balanced budget during a time of significant financial uncertainty. State funding decisions have not yet been finalized, and rising costs across the district are affecting school operations. Learn more.

Special Education staffing update for 2026-27

As part of the development of the Superintendent’s Proposed Budget for the 2026-27 school year, the district must reduce Special Education expenditures by approximately $18 million. To help address this gap, adjustments will be made to Special Education staffing ratios for next school year. All ratios will remain within or below state-recommended guidelines. Attend free STEM and Resource Fair for high school students with disabilities on April 18

High school students with disabilities – as well as their families and friends – are invited to the Reach for the Stars! Be a Star! STEM and Resource Fair on April 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. The free event is hosted by the Catalyst program at NC State University. You can drop in any time. No registration is required. Attendees can meet professors, graduate students, and STEM professionals showcasing STEM content and educational and career pathways, and also connect with local resource providers. Learn more.

La Junta Directiva Escolar del Condado Wake recibió el martes un avance preliminar del presupuesto operativo propuesto por el superintendente para el año escolar 2026-2027. Actualización sobre la dotación de personal de Educación Especial para 2026–2027

Asista a la Feria gratuita de STEM y Recursos para estudiantes de escuela secundaria con discapacidades el 18 de abril

Los estudiantes de escuela secundaria con discapacidades, así como sus familias y amigos, están invitados a Reach for the Stars! Be a Star! Feria de STEM y Recursos el 18 de abril de 9 AM a 12 PM en el McKimmon Center en Raleigh. Este evento gratuito es organizado por el Programa Catalyst de la Universidad Estatal de Carolina del Norte (NC State University). Puede asistir en cualquier momento. No es necesario inscribirse.
