Otter Splash for the Weeks of February 1-13
Hello, Oak Grove Family, Versión en español aquí, النسخة باللغة العربية هنا, lToeo la Kiswahili hapaT, Версия на русском здесь, Versiunea in Romana
Due to character limits in School Messenger, the full version of this week’s Otter Splash will be shared through TalkingPoints. Thank you for your understanding! 🦦
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we navigated last week’s wintry weather, remote learning days, and 2-hour delays. Students have until Wednesday, February 4, to submit completed assignments to their teachers to be counted as present for the remote learning days on January 26-28. 🦦❄️
Last weekend’s icy conditions and this weekend’s snowfall gave many of our Otter families a chance to slow down—whether that meant staying cozy and warm inside or heading outdoors to make special memories in the snow. We hope everyone stayed safe and enjoyed the time together. As winter weather continues, please know that we will keep families informed of any school closures, delays, or remote learning days through our usual communication channels. Thank you for your continued flexibility and support as we navigate the winter season together. 🦦❄️
It’s hard to believe it, but we are already in the initial stages of planning for the 2026-2027 school year! The first step in that process is to open the Track Change Request window. Families may request a track change now through Monday, March 3rd. If you are interested in a track change, please contact Ms. Dahlholl at adahlhoff@wcpss.net. Please know that while we cannot guarantee that requests will be honored, we will do our best to accommodate as many as possible. Families requesting a track change will be notified of the outcome in early May. 🏫
Additionally, for students in grades Kindergarten through fourth grade, if your child will be attending a different school or leaving Wake County, please complete this brief survey so we can plan accordingly. For any questions regarding enrollment or school changes, please contact Ms. Dahlhoff at adahlhoff@wcpss.net. 🏫
At Oak Grove, our teachers and staff continue to work tirelessly each day to make a positive difference in the lives of our students. We invite you to help us celebrate their hard work by submitting an Otter Staff Shoutout! Simply complete the quick Google Form to recognize our Otterly Amazing staff—it’s a meaningful way to share how they’ve made an impact on your child. 🦦💚 Be sure to visit our website to see the shoutouts and join us in celebrating the incredible people who make Oak Grove such a special place. 🎉
Thank you for being an essential part of our OGES community. We look forward to a second semester filled with growth, learning, and success for all students.

We are excited to recognize Ms. Michot, our Amazing School Counselor, for the incredible impact she has on the Oak Grove community. She consistently goes above and beyond to support our students, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional needs are met with care and compassion. Her dedication to serving our students, staff, and families is evident in the many hats she wears each day, always with a positive, student-centered focus. We are truly grateful for her unwavering commitment, leadership, and heart, and we are so thankful to have her as part of our Otter family. We encourage our students and families to help celebrate Ms. Michot throughout the week by writing her a card, drawing her a picture, or sharing a kind note explaining why they appreciate all she does for Oak Grove. 🦦💚
🚌Bus Driver Appreciation Week - Feb 9-13🚌
February 9–13 is Bus Driver Appreciation Week, and we invite Oak Grove families to join us in celebrating our amazing bus drivers. Our drivers play an essential role every school day, demonstrating professionalism, care, and a strong commitment to keeping our students safe. During this week, we also encourage families to talk with students about the importance of safe bus behavior, including following bus rules, remaining seated, and listening to the bus driver at all times. Students are welcome to express their appreciation by creating a thank-you note, card, or artwork for their bus driver. Thank you for helping us recognize and celebrate the dedicated transportation staff who support our Otter community every day. 🦦🚌
🏫Tuesday, March 3, is a Teacher Workday🏫
On Tuesday, January 20, our school board voted to change March 3 from a school day for Tracks 1, 3, and 4 to a teacher workday because of the primary elections. This day was already a teacher workday for traditional calendar schools. Please update your calendar that students do not have school on Tuesday, March 3.

🦦Calling All Future Otters! 🦦
Kindergarten Registration for the 2025–2026 school year begins October 15th! Families with children who will be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2025, are encouraged to register early. Please see the flyers for information on how to register and how to prepare your child for Kindergarten. We can’t wait to welcome our newest Otters to the Oak Grove family! 💚
❄️☃️Brrrr...It's Cold Outside!❄️☃️
Oak Grove follows the hot and cold weather guidelines for outdoor activities to determine whether students will have outdoor recess. Please remind your child to dress appropriately for the weather, as this is also a factor teachers consider when the weather is in the yellow zone on the weather guidance.
🍦🍪Snacks, Snacks, and More Snacks🍦🍪
Recently, several families have contacted the school, the school nutrition team, or the administration to set a spending limit on MySchoolBucks. Below are the steps to manage your child's cafeteria spending. If you have any questions, please contact our cafeteria manager, Felicia Massenburg, at fmassenburg@wcpss.net.
-
Log in to MySchoolBucks, then click the person icon in the top-right corner.
-
From the menu, click “My Student.”
-
Find your student’s name, then click “Edit.”
-
On this screen, you can set optional spending limits for à la carte items (like snacks or second servings). These limits include: Daily Spending Limit, Weekly Spending Limit, and Breakfast Spending Limit.
-
To disable à lacarte spending, set all these amounts to $0. This will not prevent your student from purchasing full meals.
-
Next, select one of these account types:
-
Cash Account for Meals ONLY – For meal purchases only (no à la carte)
-
Cash Account for Meals/Ala Carte – For second servings and à la carte items
-
You can update these settings at any time.
