"Being a teacher at DDMMS allows me to weave so many compelling global issues into our curriculum. For instance, 8th graders are currently working on researching and examining the refugee experience, with the end goal of exploring how the universal refugee experience is reflected in our informational and literary texts. Our journey has taken us to far corners of the world, and the individual stories have humanized the global experience, and challenged students to think deeply about how our sustainable development goals can translate into measurable actions."
Mrs. McElreath, ELA Teacher, 2019 to present
"In the Project Revive course, students learn about how our lifestyles affect the environment of the entire world. They are exposed to recent developments that foreign countries are producing to help counteract the negative impacts. They then research and design eco-friendly solutions to create an eco-community that could be part of our future anywhere around the globe."
Ms. Simmons, CTE Teacher, 2020 to present
"I first learned about the SDGs during my master's program at NC State and I started following several UN pages on Facebook. It's interesting how it has come full circle with being part of our school's curriculum!"
Ms. Fisher, ESL Teacher, 2018-present

Dillard Middle School is a Wake County Magnet School with a theme centered around global-content integration and Spanish immersion. Our official name became Dillard Drive The Center for Global Studies and Spanish Immersion Magnet Middle School in 2021. DDMMS is also a recipient of the MSAP Grant, providing our school with funding to create a one of kind learning environment for all students. Starting in 2021, at Dillard Magnet Middle, language instruction will be offered in both the French and Spanish languages. In language classes students will study the culture, language, and grammar of their enrolled language. Another aspect of DDMMS's program is the integration of global themes within all classes. For example, students will make connections between what they are learning and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition to learning about the UN's SDGs, students will be asked to apply their learning to solve regional, national, and global issues such as food insecurity, access to clean water, global warming, and equity and justice for all people.
Staff and students at DDMMS are dedicated to our core values: Show Kindness, Own It, Persevere, Be Present, and Believe. These core values are at the heart of bringing our community together and developing our global partnerships. We are a school where students from different communities are brought together to learn about different cultures, while developing empathy for those around them and around the world.
As we are just beginning our journey as a magnet school and building our magnet program, we are excited for the opportunities our newly funded magnet programing will bring to our community.
