Carnage Gifted & Talented (GT) / AIG Basics Magnet Middle School
All students are magnet students at Carnage Magnet Middle School. This means that no matter how a child is assigned to our school, they all access our Gifted & Talented (GT) magnet programming. Additionally, students that are identified as Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) in Reading and/or Math are supported through the AIG Basics magnet programming.
Gifted & Talented (GT): K-12
The Gifted and Talented (GT) Pathway includes some of the district's most popular and long-standing magnet programming. It is rooted in the belief that every student has gifts and talents to be valued and nurtured. To that end, all of our students explore a wide variety of subject areas through both the core classes and an extensive menu of elective courses that develop their strengths and interests. Students have the opportunity to customize their academic programs by choosing elective courses according to their academic needs and interests.
Our elective course offerings enhance the four core areas (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies) and include expanded offerings in visual and performing arts, world languages, physical education, and career/technical education pathways. Many of our courses are quarter-long and allow students to explore a wide vareity of interests. Students take 3 elective periods during the school day and based on their choices and the length of the course, they may have the opportunity to take up to 12 electives per academic year.
AIG Basics: K-8
Students in the AIG (Academically or Intellectually Gifted) Basics Program are identified in either Reading and/or Math. Students identified as AIG Reading will be grouped with other AIG students in their English Language Arts classes. Students identified as AIG in Math will have access to more rigorous math courses. Students are clustered in their other core classes. There are numerous opportunities for academically or intellectually gifted students to choose courses that meet their individual needs. These courses provide extended academic opportunities, challenges and acceleration. Eligible students may take double math in one academic year.
