July 2, 2020: Multi-Track Year-Round Schools to Convert to Single Track Under Plan B
-
Dear Parent,
You are receiving this message because your child is enrolled in a year-round school for the 2020-21 school year.
On Thursday, the school board approved a plan to return to school in August that would be a blend of in-person and remote instruction.
Under this plan, known as Plan B, students will be assigned to groups (1,2, or 3). Siblings will be in the same groups. Groups will attend school in an ongoing rotation by attending school in person for one week and receiving remote instruction for two weeks.
Because of this change, the board approved a recommendation to move all year-round students to Track 4 for the duration of Plan B. View 2020-21 Track 4 calendar. The school year will begin on Aug. 17.
After a thorough review, it was determined that putting all students on one track provides the most consistent in-person instruction for students.
Multiple tracks in Plan B would result in long gaps between in-person instruction weeks for many students. It would also require creating as many as 12 separate groups of students.
If schools are allowed to return to Plan A, in which all students would be allowed to be in the school building at the same time, year-round schools could shift to multi-track at a natural transition point such as the end of a quarter or semester. That decision would be made based on state guidelines and requirements. Students would return to their originally assigned track.
You will receive additional information regarding this change in the coming weeks.
