Jeffrey Mokan, Physical Education

My name is Coach Mokan and I am in my 11th year teaching in North Carolina! This is my 2nd full year at Rolesville Elementary School. I was born and raised in Western New York before relocating to North Carolina. I love playing lacrosse, going to the beach, and being with friends and family. My favorite sports team to watch is the Buffalo Bills. This past summer, I got married and could not be happier! My wife and I live in North Raleigh with our dog Franklin.

I love teaching students and seeing the progress they make! In Physical Education, we learn about skills, exercises, stretches, and will play different games bringing all of those together. We also learn about the bones and muscles of our body. I’m excited to have a great year!

Lindsay Smith, Music Education

Hi! I’m Lindsay Smith, and I’m the Music Specialist at Rolesville Elementary School. I teach all of our students Kindergarten - 5th Grade, and I lead the RES Chorus. The best part of my day is making music with my students. I love to see their faces light up while they’re playing and singing together, and the pride they feel when they do something that was challenging at first.

I grew up outside of Buffalo, in Clarence, NY. I have always loved music, singing all the time and participating in every performing group I could throughout middle school and high school. I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Westminster College in Pennsylvania, in May of 2007. I then began my teaching career in Hoke County, NC. In 2013 I joined the staff at Rolesville Elementary School in 2013 and finished my master’s degree in Music Education in May the same year.

I love being a part of the RES staff, and I am especially proud of the Specialist team for our dedication to our students. We are always looking for ways to improve learning in our subject areas, and the ways we can collaborate, both with each other and with grade level teams.

My husband, Justin, and I live in North Raleigh with our dog, Gracie. In my spare time I love reading, playing video and board games, baking, going to the movies, bird watching, and spending time outside in my garden.

Meredith Olson, Art Education

My name is Meredith Olson and I’m thrilled to be the new art teacher at RES! I graduated from NC State with an arts degree before receiving my master's degree in Art Therapy from George Washington University. I live in Raleigh with my husband, two sons and our rescue kitties. When not working on my own art, I love to adventure around the city with my family, relax during family movie and game nights, and travel whenever I’m able. Prior to teaching, I had a long career with the YMCA running various youth and teen programs. I am so excited to bring my passion for art and the joy in the creative process to Rolesville students this year!
