• Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG)

The Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program provides a rewarding experience for students who perform or show potential for performing, at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience or environment. AIG students receive specific education services beyond those ordinarily provided by the traditional educational program.

With AIG, outstanding abilities are present in students from all cultural groups, across all economic strata and in all areas of human endeavor. We aim to identify students from every walk of life who qualify for AIG services. The goal is to provide opportunities to fully develop each learner's potential.

Would you like to nominate your child for the Academically or Intellectually Gifted program? Nominations are accepted all year. Testing for grades 4-8 takes place twice during the school year. See your school's AIG teacher for more information.

Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jen Barbour

Hi! I am Jen Barbour! I grew up in Miami, FL.  My education consists of a bachelor's degree in Math and Secondary Education from Vanderbilt University, a Master's degree in Math Education from The University of Alabama, Birmingham, and a graduate certificate in gifted education from UNC-Charlotte.

I taught math for 6 years before I had my two wonderful sons Ryan and Kyle.  I was a stay at home mom for several years before I got my dream job teaching AIG at Rolesville in 2010.  I've been married to my husband, Greg, since 1994.  Our two sons both attended Rolesville Elementary so I've been a part of the Rolesville family since 2004. I love to exercise, read, work on puzzles, and spend my free time at the beach.

Rolesville Elementary is a great place to learn because of the culture of positivity, acceptance, and willingness to try new things.

As a parent, volunteer, substitute teacher and finally teacher, I have always felt the sense of community at Rolesville Elementary--it truly feels like home.
