The campus of Apex Middle School has a rich history. The Apex community had formal schools as far back as 1864, and a brick building opened on Moore Street in 1922 that served hundreds of elementary and high school students. The building continued to expand to add classrooms, a cafeteria, gymnasium, and athletic fields. In 1975, the Apex High School on Laura Duncan Road opened to integrate students from the white high school on Moore Street and the black consolidated school that was located at the current Apex Elementary School. Our current campus formally became Apex Middle School in 1977 for grades 6-8. The site has undergone several renovations and reconfigurations since, and the school has continued to be an integral part of the Apex community.
