Career Development

  • Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program is designed to assist students in making knowledgeable career choices that will prepare them to be globally competitive in the workforce, prepare students for employment opportunities, advanced education and productive lives.

CTE promotes best practices that enhance teachers' efforts to improve student achievement and encourage responsible career choices. We want to meet students' needs, cultivate their abilities and help them realize their aspirations. CTE courses are offered in WCPSS middle schools based on students' future career interests.

Middle school students are offered exploratory courses in business and information technologies, life skills, technology systems and career decisions. Each middle school has a Career Development Coordinator to support the school-to-career connection and facilitate business alliance activities. Your Career Development Coordinator can help you develop the skills you need to become career, college and citizenship ready.

Hello, I am the Career Development Coordinator (CDC) for Wendell Magnet Middle School. I have over 11 years of experience in education. Before becoming a CDC, I taught Family and Consumer Sciences courses for 4 years. I grew up in the Zebulon area and attended/graduated from the Bunn districted schools. I moved away to Wilmington for 10 years, started a family with my husband and two wonderful children. Now, I am happy to be back home and so glad to be a part of the WMMS family.

Please reach out to me for any career related needs or questions. I would love the opportunity to partner with any parents/guardians who have an interest in being involved in career related activities or connecting us with local businesses/college programs you may be affiliated with! We are always looking for guest speakers, field trip opportunities, as well as hosting career events on campus.
