WCPSS requires that students be present for half of the instructional school day, 195 minutes, in order to be counted present.  At Washington, this means arriving before 12:35pm or being picked up after 12:35pm.

To prepare for a safe dismissal, students are not called to the office for dismissal after 3:15pm. Families that need to sign out their child(ren) early from school must arrive by 3:15pm, with a photo ID.  Parents/Families arriving after 3:15 pm will be directed to the carpool line and their child(ren) will be redirected to carpool if needed.

Coming to school every day, ready to learn, is important for your child's success. It's also required by state law for children between the ages of 7 and 16. 

Excused absences include:

• illness or injury
• a death in the family
• health care appointments
• court appearances 
• religious observance
• natural disasters
• outside educational opportunities (you'll need to complete the Request For Excused Absence For Educational Reasons Form | Request For Excused Absence For Educational Reasons (Spanish) in advance)

You'll need to provide a note within two days of your child's return to school or the absences will be recorded as unexcused. Your principal or teachers will notify you if there are three or more unexcused absences, and will work with you and your child if there is a concern that absences are becoming excessive.

Your child will need to make up all work he or she missed, as scheduled by the teacher.
