Meet Our Principal

Wenitra Merritt is a proud educator with 26+ years of experience. After teaching in upstate NY and completing a master’s degree program in Interdisciplinary Arts for Children, she moved to Wake County in 1997. She taught for a total of 12 years at the elementary school level, then earned a Masters of School Administration degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. For 14 years, she supported several outstanding Wake County principals as their assistant principal. All of her school leadership experiences have been in Title I schools, where she successfully changed the narrative for so many students because of her unwavering commitment to the growth and achievement of ALL students. She is thrilled to bring her skills and passion as an educational leader to Carver Elementary School.
Ms. Merritt values having positive relationships with students, families, staff, and the community at-large. She believes that ALL students can learn and possess inherent strengths and talents. She believes a school should be student-centered, where learning activities are relevant, engaging, and empowering. She understands the positive impact of collaboration and she looks forward to partnering with the total Carver School community to make sure the students at Carver Elementary reach their true potential.
