Emergency, Fire and Severe Weather Drills: Fire drills at regular intervals are required by law and are an important safety precaution. When the fire drill signal sounds, students should form a single line and leave the building by the designated route quickly and quietly. An evacuation map is located in every room, near the door, showing the exit route. When notification is given that the drill is over, students should return to their rooms in a quiet and orderly manner. Severe weather drills are performed to instruct students about safety rules to follow during a tornado. These drills are announced over the intercom.
Inclement Weather/Emergency Situations: In case of snow and other dangerous weather or emergency situations, a decision may be made to close or delay school. Refer to local television stations as well as the WCPSS website for cancellations and make-up dates. This information will also be available on our Twitter feed (@SycamoreCreekES).
Lockdown Procedure: Several times throughout the school year, Sycamore Creek staff and students practice having lockdown drills to ensure the safety of all our students. In the event the school needs to be placed on a lockdown, other than a drill, WCPSS Security Department in conjunction with local law enforcement and Wake Emergency Services division have developed a Critical Incident Response Kit plan to be utilized in the case of an extreme emergency at school. In the event of an extreme emergency we request for parents to tune in to local media (TV, radio) for information regarding how to reunite with your child/children. Parents should not come to Sycamore Creek Elementary as their presence may hinder or delay the emergency response plan in process.
