I am excited to be bringing back our DRES Chorus after being sidelined due to Covid for the past couple of years. I have missed working on productions with the kids and we will have loads of fun making music and memories together!

The social benefits of playing chess are myriad: making friends; learning to cooperate, communicate and collaborate; learning to win and lose gracefully.

     There are tremendous academic benefits as well.  Developing reasoning and critical thinking skills, strengthening memory, problem solving, and math skills and metacognition (the ability to think, track and communicate how and what you are thinking.)  

     But the reason Ms. Hinton started the club is that research shows that learning and playing chess can positively impact reading scores!

Flag Detail is comprised of mature, responsible fourth grade students who raise and lower the American and North Carolina flags each morning and afternoon. Participants will learn the basis of proper flag folding, as we honor those in the armed forces. Students volunteer from all four tracks and rotate on a weekly schedule. Flag Duty requires that the student be a carpool rider and participants are selected by teacher nomination.

KidzArt drawing lessons use a variety of fine art media, and create an environment that does not expect perfection but helps children see their own potential as capable and creative artists. The class is 1 hour per week on Monday (3:15-4:15 pm), and students K-5^th grade are welcome.

OM (http://www.odysseyofthemind.com) is a parent-coached extra curricular activity for 3rd through 5th grade students where teams of five to seven students use their creativity to foster spontaneous inventiveness, and create a solution performance for a long term problem.  If your creative and spontaneous child is interested in participating, please return information from the attached link.

This is a 5th grade service project that connects to our Ecosystems science unit. Every Friday, the fifth grade classes are responsible for collecting all the green paper bins around the school and dumping them in the recycling trash cans for pick up. The classes take turns as to when a certain class will recycle. Through this service project, the student learn about how they can do their part to help the environment.
