Pre K Program

●    Wakefield Elementary School's Pre K classroom is a part day special education program for children 3 to 5 years old.
●    Preschool special education services are based on Individualized Education Plans.
●    The goal of the program is to prepare children to enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed, providing the support the children need at an early age.  
●    The Pre K program includes family workshops for literacy, group community outings, individualized family classroom experiences, family support groups, class curriculum days, and family school partnership home visits.

Media Center

Read Across America week celebrating reading throughout the first week of March. We invite guest readers, have special appearances by local community partners, have fun dressing up, and emphasize reading all week.

Book Fairs offered two times a year. One in the Fall and a buy one get one free fair in the Spring.

Academically and Intellectually Gifted Program (AIG)

●    The Academically and Intellectually Gifted program offers classes and opportunities for students in grades 3-5. Wakefield’s AIG program provides differentiated lessons with units based on learning styles, project-based learning with Live Museums, and Socratic seminar. Students are encouraged to participate in the Duke TIP program, PSAT testing, and the National Mythology Exam.
●    K-2 Nurturing for a Bright Tomorrow is a program funded through Duke University for all K-2 students to nurture higher level thinking skills and Habits of Mind. The program is endorsed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), Wake County Public Schools (WCPSS) and The American Association for Gifted Children at Duke University (AAGC).
