Creative Writing Club

Do you like to write? Would you like to write more? Join the creative writing club! We will spend part of our time together exploring different forms of literature (poetry, news articles, video reports, comic strips, etc.) and the rest of our time brainstorming, playing writing games, and workshopping our own personal writing! Members will have at least one project (a story, a report, a poem, a song, a video essay, a drawing with figurative meaning) that they have put through the complete revision process and are proud of by the end of the semester so that we can put them together into a collection of great work!  Meetings will begin on Thursday, January 28th at 3:05.

VIRTUAL DANCE CLUB

Do you love to dance? Join dance club, meet other dancers, and make new friends. The dance team are ambassadors for the River Bend dance program and work hard to build a positive reputation for our school with the community. Dance team members are mentored by high school and help mentor young students.  Our first meeting will be Oct. 1st at 3:30pm on Google Meet

The Global Read Aloud Book Club 

Do you like learning about people around the world?  In this book club, middle school students all over the world connect by reading the same book at the same time.   This year, you can read or listen to me read "Prairie Lotus" by Linda Sue Park. We will make contacts with other schools and students around the world to discuss the book and its message.  The chapters will be posted throughout the week, and we will meet to discuss them on Thursdays at 3:05.

Project Lit Book Club  

Project lit is an organization that promotes diversity in literature.  Last year, we read, "Ghost" by Jason Reynolds.  It was amazing!  This year, we will read, "It's Trevor Noah: Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood" by Trevor Noah.  Families, friends, neighbors, and community members are all welcome to join in on reading this book with us.  River Bend Students can join this Google Classroom to hear the story read aloud, or you can read it on your own.  We will have discussions and discoveries along the way.  The goal is to have a celebration at the end of the book with all the readers!  During this celebration, I would love to share stories from your childhood, your family's childhood, and share our history! The chapters will be posted throughout the week, and we will meet to discuss them on Fridays at 3:05.

Global Citizens Club @ River Bend

The mission of the Global Citizens Club @ River Bend is to provide international and domestic educational virtual opportunities for students that will expand their classroom-based knowledge and offer dynamic experiential learning experiences. We will be exploring cultures, languages, and traditions from around the world. 

Post-Covid: students will be able to travel for real world experience. Traveling beyond the classroom provides a variety of important life-long learning opportunities. It allows us to better understand and appreciate the history of ancient civilizations, often bringing the lessons from the classroom into a real world context. It exposes us to new cultures and languages, breaking down barriers and misconceptions and encourages us to step out of our comfort zone. It teaches us tolerance, patience, and understanding.  Any student may join at any point throughout the year—all are welcome! RBMS’s Science Club

The mission of the Science Club @ Riverbend this school year is to provide  educational virtual opportunities for students that will expand their classroom-based knowledge and offer dynamic experiential learning experiences. We will be exploring a variety of scientific topics (including: sea turtles, reptiles, adaptations, invertebrates, Journey through NC, whales, habitats, squid dissection, birds, shark dissection, beach biology, marshes, parrots, and vultures) with educators from the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium.

National Beta Club

National Beta Club has helped nearly seven million students learn how to make a life for themselves—and, since 1991, it has awarded over $6 million in scholarships. Although there are some universal requirements, each chapter has its own criteria for selection. Junior Beta is divided into two divisions: Division I includes grades 4-5 and Division II includes grades 6-8. Senior Beta includes grades 9-12. Regardless of division, though, members adhere to the Beta mission and learn to embrace and embody its four pillars. Over 80 years have passed, but Beta's vision and mission has remained the same. And most everyone who has been fortunate enough to be called a member has embraced those ideals and applied them to their own lives. From U.S. President Bill Clinton to current professional basketball player Kevin Durant, Beta members continue to lead long after their high school days are behind them.

Pep Band

Pep Band is intended for students with one year of previous experience playing a band instrument.  However, ANY band student is welcome to attend.  We will play some fun songs with the goal of being ready to play at RBMS athletic events once we return to school.
