• Meet our Administration

    Mr. John Corey, III, Principal

It is my honor to introduce myself as the principal of Conn Magnet Elementary School.

The path that led to me serving as the principal of Conn Magnet Elementary can be compared to a Trilogy where each episode is quite unique but contributes to the big picture and message.  I received undergraduate degrees in mathematics education and music education from East Carolina University.  I later earned a Master of Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Master's in School Administration from East Carolina University.  I started my profession at East Millbrook Magnet Middle School, where I taught vocal music and music exploratory to all grade levels.  I later transitioned to teaching vocal and instrumental music at South Central High School and later at William G. Enloe Magnet High School.  I completed an administrative internship at Hunter Magnet Elementary and transitioned to serving as assistant principal at West Lake Year Round Middle.  While at West Lake Middle, I facilitated Restorative Practices initiatives, and fostered strong community among staff and students and parents.

I love spending time with my family, former students, cooking, exercising, watching movies and, of course, teaching music, when I have time.  I love getting to meet new people, hearing their stories and finding ways to connect.

It is my true honor to serve the wonderful CONNmUNITY.  I am committed to being a leader who: supports and models equity as both an action and an outcome; is visible, has high levels of engagement, and expectations of excellence; and continues to ensure that Conn is the leading magnet elementary school in the district. I look forward to working with each one of your families on our educational journey together.

    Mr. Michael Warholik, Assistant Principal

    Warholik

I am excited and honored to be joining the CONNmUNITY as the Assistant Principal. I was born and raised in northern Michigan and moved to Raleigh in 2008 to pursue a teaching position with Wake County Public Schools teaching in first, third, and fifth grade. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University.  I spent the last year as an administrator at Oberlin Magnet Middle School while earning my Master of School Administration as an NC Principal Fellow at North Carolina State University.

I believe that public education should be a great equalizer. School should serve as a place where students of all backgrounds can access the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to build a meaningful and productive life. Therefore, I strive to create a safe and inclusive learning space that fosters independence, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. In addition, I want to establish an atmosphere at the school that promotes open communication and respects diversity and teamwork among all parties involved by working with the faculty, students, and parents to increase student achievement.

I am looking forward to a fantastic year and getting to know everyone in the CONNmUNITY!
