Are you interested in taking dual enrollment courses through Career & College Promise (CCP) at Wake Tech Community College (WTCC)?
Please review the information below to learn more about the program.
-
1. WHAT IS CAREER AND COLLEGE PROMISE?
Career & College Promise (CCP) is North Carolina’s dual enrollment program for high school students. This program allows eligible NC high school students to enroll in tuition-free college classes at North Carolina community colleges while still in high school. (While the tuition cost for classes is waived, students are still responsible for the cost of any books or materials associated with their courses.) Students who successfully complete these college courses earn college credit they can take with them after graduation in many cases.
CCP offers North Carolina high school students options to pursue educational and career goals of their choice using a rigorous yet supportive structure designed to help them become successful.
(Click the image above to access the video)
As a family, please watch the CCP Online Information Session. It is helpful in understanding details about the program.
-
2. WHAT PATHWAYS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH CCP?
CCP offers students the option to choose from these pathways:
-
College Transfer - Designed for students planning to continue their educational career beyond high school to eventually achieve an Associate or Bachelor's degree at a community college or university. -Use this link to decide which pathway best fits your college/career plans. (Click the dropdown arrow under Wake Tech Degrees to learn more about each pathway)
-
Career & Technical Education - Allows students to begin a certification or diploma program in a particular technical field or career area.
*Students can take up to two pathways, but if they do, one must be a Career and Technical Education pathway. -
-
3. WHEN SHOULD I START CCP?
We recommend starting this program in the Fall of junior year. This provides 6 semesters to participate (Fall, Spring, and Summer of Junior and Senior years). Please use this link to determine eligibility in the program.
9th & 10th Graders may be eligible to participate. (See Can 9th & 10th graders participate in CCP? dropdown below for more information)
-
4. WHY SHOULD STUDENTS CONSIDER CAREER & COLLEGE PROMISE?
CCP pathways offer students rigorous and relevant coursework designed to engage their interests and help them achieve educational and career goals. For students interested in technical careers and post-secondary education, or at least exploring their options in this area, the courses they encounter as part of a CCP pathway will align closely with the level of work that will be expected of them after finishing high school.
In addition, research has shown that high school students who take college courses are more likely to attend and graduate from college with an advanced certification or degree. Finally, because CCP courses are tuition-free, the program also helps reduce the cost of a college degree, career certification, or diploma. CCP can make post-secondary education a viable option for students who may believe that the cost of college puts it out of reach for them. -
5. IMPORTANT GHHS DETAILS
- It is highly recommended that students very seriously consider whether they are ready to take college level classes. Classes taken at the community college level count towards a student's college and high school GPA and could potentially impact acceptance at a 4-year college or university.
- Please visit Wake Tech’s website to review their steps for applying. (New & Returning Students) The CCP New Student Application User Guide and CCP Continuing Student Form User Guides are helpful when applying. See the 8. How do I apply for CCP? section for additional information.
- You will need a recent copy of your academic transcript for CCP. To request a transcript, please visit the following link: https://tinyurl.com/GHtranscript Please choose the College and Career Promise (Electronic Copy) option and it will be processed within 48 hours. See “How do I request a transcript” section below for additional assistance.
- You do not have to drop a class at Green Hope to take a CCP course. CCP courses can be taken in addition to your Green Hope course load.
- Spring Semester Only Information: As you register for classes at Green Hope High for the upcoming school year, you will follow the exact same process as normal. You should select 8 primary classes and 4 alternates in PowerSchool for Green Hope course registration purposes.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Wake Tech’s calendar does NOT align with the WCPSS calendar. These are two separate institutions. There may be overlapping classes/dates at the beginning and end of semesters. Plan accordingly when registering with Wake Tech. Students are not permitted to miss Green Hope classes to go to their CCP classes under any circumstances.
- You are only allowed on GHHS’s campus for the periods that you are registered for a GHHS course. If you have early release or late arrival, you are not permitted to remain on Green Hope’s campus during those times.
- GHHS parking spots are NOT guaranteed for any student, and this applies to CCP students as well. Participating in CCP does not increase your likelihood of receiving a parking spot. CCP students are responsible for their transportation to and from school if they have a modified/reduced schedule.
- WCPSS does not provide transportation to WTCC classes. Students must have their own transportation if classes are in-person.
All signature request forms and other applicable documentation (test scores, AIG documentation, underclassmen intentions request forms, etc.) need to be submitted to the ghhsccp@wcpss.net email address by 10/11/2024 to be considered for priority. Students who submit all documentation will have their forms processed by Green Hope by 10/18/2024.

6. WHERE DO I SEND MY SIGNATURE REQUEST FORM?
Each application requires a signature request from the school to verify that you are making progress towards your high school graduation and are in good academic standing. All students should list Justin McIntyre, Dean of Students, (ghhsccp@wcpss.net) as the principal/designee on the Wake Tech Signature Request section of the application. Please make sure you list the ghhsccp@wcpss.net email address for the Signature Request form and not a Green Hope staff member’s email address.
Failure to list the correct email address as well as sending multiple requests will delay your application being processed. Signature request forms submitted to other email addresses will be deleted.

-
18. CAN I TAKE CALCULUS 1, 2, OR 3 AT WAKE TECH?
Yes. If you know that you would like to take Calculus 1, 2 or 3 at Wake Tech, you will need to fill out this Direct Placement Form. If you do not submit this form prior to self registration, you will not be allowed to sign up for a higher level math course as you will have not met the prerequisite. Please review the Direct Placement Form for necessary scores and requirements on what is needed to take a higher level math.

22. CAN I TAKE CCP CLASSES OVER THE SUMMER?
Yes. (This is how seniors are able to take class after graduation in June. They begin taking classes in May.) Per the CCP enrollment process, students who wish to take CCP summer classes are considered to be in the grade they are currently completing. For example: If a current high school sophomore wishes to apply for summer classes through CCP, they are considered a sophomore until they actually start their junior year and must therefore meet the 9th/10th grade application requirements to be able to apply for CCP summer classes.

23. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN ATHLETIC WHILE TAKING CCP CLASSES?
Yes.

-
24. CAN 9TH & 10TH GRADERS PARTICIPATE IN CCP?
Yes. However, we recommend starting this program in the Fall of junior year. (Current Sophomore students will apply in the Spring for the Fall of the upcoming year). This provides 6 semesters to participate (Fall, Spring, and Summer of Junior and Senior years)
Instead of taking additional classes over the summer, we recommend spending time volunteering or getting a part-time job. Both look great on resumes and help build essential soft skills for the future.
It is recommended that 9th & 10th graders consider whether they are ready to take college level classes. Classes taken at the community college level count towards a student's college GPA and could potentially impact acceptance at a 4-year college or university. In addition, since early release/late arrival (at Green Hope) is not allowed for underclassmen, they would be taking a college level course on top of their full high school schedule. If 9th or 10th graders choose to participate in CCP, they must meet ALL admission eligibility requirements with approved documentation. These requirements are set by the NC Community College System, not WCPSS. Please reach out to a CCP staff member for more information about eligibility requirements.
Green Hope High School can assist underclassmen in obtaining:-

Yes. Please review drop deadlines under the Events and Important Deadlines page. Please reach out to a CCP staff member AND your academic counselor at Green Hope BEFORE you drop your class. Green Hope will include the grades we obtain from Wake Tech in your high school transcript. Please review the Wake Tech grading scale here.
*For reference, a “W” or “WP” will translate to a “WP” in our system. A WP means “Withdrawal, no penalty” and does not have GPA implications. However, a “WF” (Withdrawal, with penalty) will translate to an F on your high school transcript.* -
