Tardy and absence policy for WCPSS Middle Schools:
Tardy: If students are not in their classroom by 8:15am they are considered tardy. Parents are required to sign students in at the front office each time they arrive late to school if they do not have a doctor’s note.
Absent: When your child is absent from school, you are not required to call in on the day of the absence. Please send in a handwritten or typed note. Do not use the Request for Educational Leave for absences due to illness. Your note should have the following information:
- Date the note is being submitted
- Student's First and Last Name
- Student's Grade Level and Track
- Dates of Student Absences
- Reason for Absence
- Parent/Guardian Signature
All notes should be turned in to Student Services within 2 days of student returning to school. (Emails for absences are not accepted.) Without a note, absence is recorded as unexcused.
-
Coming to school every day, ready to learn, is important for your child's success. It's also required by state law for children between the ages of 7 and 16.
Excused absences include:- illness or injury
- a death in the family
- health care appointments
- court appearances
- religious observance
- natural disasters
- outside educational opportunities (you'll need to complete the Request For Excused Absence For Educational Reasons Form | Request For Excused Absence For Educational Reasons (Spanish) in advance)
You'll need to provide a note within two days of your child's return to school or the absences will be recorded as unexcused. Your principal or teachers will notify you if there are three or more unexcused absences, and will work with you and your child if there is a concern that absences are becoming excessive.
Your child will need to make up all work he or she missed, as scheduled by the teacher.
