Science Fair Registration is now complete for the 2026 school year! Due to the overwhelming response, we have split it into 2 nights. Mrs. Overton has reached out via email and Talking Points to the families affected. Please let her know if you have any questions. Grades 3-5 (plus any K-2 students in those groups) will present on March 19th. We have tried to move all individuals and groups with only K-2 students to May 7th. 

Please note that this is a Science Fair Expo. It is a noncompetitive event focused on learning scientific practices, promoting mastery over winning, and allowing for exploration of failures. While students will be given verbal feedback and offered chances to present their project, they will not be judged and awards will not be given. 

Guidelines

• We encourage family participation
• All projects must follow White Oak Elementary TREK expectations, and WCPSS student conduct guidelines
• No animals (can photograph)
• No chemicals or liquids in open containers – no explosions (i.e. no open petri dishes and no exploding volcanos – pictures are fine!)
• No foul-smelling or allergy provoking substances such as molds in open containers
• No wiring hazards, such as frayed insulation, exposed wires or loose connections  
• School will not provide access to electricity, gas or water
• Display board should not exceed width: 3.5 ft,  depth: 2.5 ft, height 5 ft 
• Make sure your free-standing display board is sturdy
• Must remove project at the end of the Expo by 7pm
• No more than 5 people in a group!

How to Get Started

1. Choose a category:

Biological Sciences: Projects that involve living things or once living things.

Environmental Sciences: Projects that involve environment and the relationship of living things together in their environment

Earth Sciences: Projects that involve the Earth & physical phenomena

Physical Sciences: Projects that involve nonliving things.

Behavioral, Social, & Health Sciences: Projects that involve the ways people and/or animals behave, perception studies, opinions

2. Decide if you will use the Scientific Method or Engineering & Design Process

3. Choose a project -- please see Mrs. Overton's website for the presentation given to students. There are links of project ideas. 

4. Register using the form below

5. Work on project & make sure you are ready to present on March 19th!
