    Children can experience problems or changes in their lives just as adults do.  It can affect them emotionally, physically, and academically.  Because we want them to grow and develop in a positive way, finding solutions to their problems or helping them to adjust to changes is very important. 

    What is a School Counselor?

    A school counselor is a person that helps children solve many kinds of problems, both at home and at school.  The school counselor acts as a support person by being a “listening ear” and supporting the student's family and teachers. 

    What does the School Counselor Do?

    • Individual counseling
    • Group counseling
    • Classroom guidance
    • Parent education
    • Consultation with teachers
    • Referral to outside agencies
     
    Counseling groups can focus on many topics including:
    • Self-regulation
    • Goal setting
    • Self-esteem
    • Friendships
    • Anger management
    • Grief
    • Social Skills
    • Divorce/Family Change

    Students and families can meet with the school counselor during the school day or at other arranged times.  Referrals can be made by parents, teachers, other school personnel, as well as students.
