• Crossroads FLEX Seat Time

    115C-378 NC Compulsory Attendance Law Overview | Every parent, guardian, or custodian in this State having charge or control of a child between the ages of 7 and 16 years shall cause the child to attend school continuously for a period equal to the time which the public school to which the child is assigned shall be in session. Every parent, guardian, or custodian in this State having charge or control of a child under age seven who is enrolled in a public school in grades kindergarten through two shall also cause the child to attend school continuously for a period equal to the time which the public school to which the child is assigned shall be in session unless the child has withdrawn from school.

    Seat time hours consist of actual time in class plus any additional time devoted to completing schoolwork.

    All students are required to complete seat-time in person unless they have submitted documentation and received approval from the administration.

    • The seat time requirement for freshmen is 10 hours per week.

    • The seat time requirement for sophomores and juniors is 8 hours per week.

    • The seat time requirement for seniors is 6 hours per week.

    The staff at Crossroads FLEX may require additional seat time for the following reasons:

    • If a student is a freshman;
    • If a student is failing or in danger of failing a course;
    • If a student is not responding to staff correspondence at Crossroads FLEX or North Carolina Virtual Public Schools (NCVPS); and/or
    • If a student is not submitting assignments on time.

    Students are responsible for their coursework, including studying to attain passing grades, submitting all assignments on time, and keeping in contact with their instructors.  Failure to do so will result in an increase of required seat time up to twenty (15) hours per week.  Required seat time can be reduced if a student improves in the areas aforementioned above.

    A high school student’s first priority is being a high school student.  Any seat time required by Crossroads FLEX serves to assist a student’s success during their high school matriculation.

    Students, in conjunction with their parents, can determine the various times a student attends Crossroads FLEX as long as they are able to attend scheduled face-to-face classes and complete their required seat time hours within the week, Monday through Friday.

    Variation in Seat Time Due to Calendar Changes

    Minimum seat-time adjustments due to school closers.

    The traditional calendar includes workdays, early release days, vacation days, holidays, and possibly delays throughout the school year.  A student’s required amount of seat time can be prorated based on the number of non-school days or delays during that particular week and based on the number of hours required for seat time.

    Students required seat time will be reduced by the number of days (or partial days) we are not in session for that week.

    Attendance

     A hybrid/blended learning program is a combination of online learning and face-to-face learning at Crossroads FLEX; therefore, some seat time is required for all students.

    Student attendance is determined by the amount of weekly seat time assigned and the amount of weekly seat time completed.  Students are expected to meet their assigned seat time per week at the Crossroads FLEX site. Students should submit documentation to the school when they will be unable to meet their hours for that week.  Failure to meet the required seat time is a violation of the attendance guidelines for attending Crossroads FLEX and may result in a student's transfer being revoked.
