Mr. Sparrow

Welcome, please call me K. Sparrow. I grew up in rural eastern North Carolina. It was a community that truly embraced the concept, “It takes a village to raise a child’. I mention this to inspire students to look beyond their present circumstance and where they are, to where they’re going.

Science was always my best subject in school, so using that gift to make room for a career for me has been both wise and fruitful. I primarily financed my first undergraduate degree by working at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, NC as a bio-science research assistant. The experience, skill set and training that I received from N.I.E.H.S. has been priceless. Upon graduating, my career began in the pharmaceutical industry. I, along with two others, operated a lab under Kato Research Ltd, that has now gone worldwide.

After the company moved operations to Canada, I found myself in transition. Without being interested in “teaching" I was led towards education. I began as a kindergarten teacher assistant, before advancing on to high school and post-secondary education. I left education for some years to pursue other interests, but returned after becoming a father and obtained an education degree along with certifications in middle grades and high school sciences. I have taught Biology, Earth and Physical Science at Phillips.

My interests are too many to list, but I enjoy family time, amusement parks, live events and motorsports.
