    English II PBL

    Culture and Identity in Times of Crisis
     
    Description:
    While reading Things Fall Apart (a book that depicts the complexities of Igbo culture in Nigeria, and the impact of colonialism on that culture), English 2 students researched a current crisis facing our society and analyzed their cultural implications. Students had the choice of which crisis to research, and how they wanted to express their view on this crisis. The projects linked below by category are the products of the students who expressed interest in sharing their views with the greater NWCCA community. The English department is proud of all students and wishes to share their perspectives with you here.
    ELA Standards:

    S.H.E.D. Poster and Trifold Brochures

     
    The Students’ Hands-on Experience Day (S.H.E.D.) allows high school Drafting, Graphic Design and Carpentry students to compete in a shed design and building competition. CTE/Wake County Schools to Careers joins companies in the construction community with local schools to encourage students, parents and educators to explore the various career opportunities in construction and to strengthen our workforce for the future of the industry.
     
    Graphic Design students throughout Wake County Schools compete for the opportunity to design this years marketing materials: a branded S.H.E.D. Poster and Trifold Brochure. Industry leaders select this years winners, but due to Covid19, the competition was cancelled for the 2020 school year.
     
    Although they could not participate in the field trip event this year, please join me in congratulating these amazing NWCCA students for outstanding design work! Check our  their projects here!

    World History Websites

    This project was a PBL Collaboration with World History and Digital Design highlighting an idea or innovation from the Renaissance/Reformation/ Scientific Revolution period.  The purpose of the website is to show the significance of a lasting impact of  an idea or innovation. This project demonstrated strong evidence of the four elements of PBL: communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. In addition, an important component of the project was the feedback protocol provided by both classes allowing for reflection and revision.

    Adobe Visual Design's Unity Logo Design Project

     

    Unity Digital's team teamed up with the Visual Design students at North Wake College & Career Academy; a Project-Based Learning early college. Students were charged with rebranding the company's logo through developing personas and conducting research while learning Adobe Illustrator. Our partnership was formed through the WakeEd LINK program, and was instrumental in getting us connected.

    North Wake Gallery Digital Archive

    Students learned about the Surrealism art history movement and created a watercolor illustration that depicted an inspirational dream they've had in the past. Each student submitted their illustration to be exhibited in the North Wake Gallery annual Digital Archive. The event was advertised and students were invited to attend a gallery reception after school.

    Spanish 1 PBL - Welcome to our school

     
    Mrs. Russ' students created a video touring our campus in Spanish for Spanish speaking parents to help promote our school.  Students also created a packet with important information about our school in Spanish such as class schedule, school supply lists, and course offerings.
