    General Directions for Rising 7th & 8th Grade Course Selection

     

    We are requesting that all students complete this course registration process no later than Wednesday, April 22. Please contact your student’s guidance counselor if you need assistance.

     

    Please note that all the documents listed below will also be on the West Cary Website

     

    • If your student does not already have PowerSchool access, please have your student claim their account through NCEdCloud -- see the document​ncedcloud -- claim credentials

    • If your student does not know how to get to PowerSchools (but has an account through NCEdCloud), please see the document ​ncedcloud -- wake id

    • If you want more detailed directions than what is listed below for completing course registration in PowerSchools, please see the document​Student Course Requests

    • Please read through the ​2020-2021 West Cary Rising 7th and 8th Grade Electives packet to know what electives your student wants to request and how many courses to request as it is different for some categories of electives.

     

    Here are specific directions for completing course registration in PowerSchools

     

    • Once in PowerSchools, please click on Course Registration on the left side menu

    • The Class Registration screen will appear. Students only need to  their elective options. Other courses such as their Language Arts Course, Math, Social Studies Course, Science Course, and Healthful Living Course will be selected automatically.

    • Please click on the “pencil” on the right side in the row for Electives. Please enter the electives that are being requested. Make sure you are selecting the approrpiate number based on the directions in the Electives packet.

    • After you have selected the requested electives, please click submit. You may print the page for your records.

    West Cary Families...here is information about our Music Electives

     

    We want to make sure you know about the band and strings (orchestra) program that West Cary Middle School offers.  Students who have never played a string or band instrument before can participate in the beginning level classes while those who already play one of the band or orchestra instruments, can sign up for the intermediate or advanced level classes depending on your students' experience.  These are year-long elective classes, so your student would sign up for one as their elective for the year.  For more information and to view instrument demonstrations, please visit these sites: band:  https://www.bepartofthemusic.org/group/index.php?id=1761 ​and strings:  https://www.bepartofthemusic.org/group/index.php?id=1758

    Show Choir is a year long elective that is offered to rising 7th and 8th grade students.  Prior to signing up for Show Choir (listed as Concert Chorus in PowerSchools), you and your families need to know the following: Show Choir is singing and dancing at the same time not traditional choir, and it requires outside school time for performances.  If you have questions, please contact Ms. Betts (jbetts@wcpss.net).
