I began my teaching career as a Physical Education and Science teacher in Durban, South Africa. After completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Psychology) and a Bachelor of Education Degree (School Guidance and Counseling), I became a high school counselor. I then moved to New Zealand where I worked for the Ministry of Education as an itinerant Resource Teacher of Behavior and Learning. During this time, I completed a Master of Special Education Degree.

My first experience of American education occurred at Joyner Elementary School where I worked in a self-contained special education class (BED). I worked at Joyner for 3 years before returning to New Zealand. I then returned to the States in 2012 and worked at Martin Middle School as the BST/AST teacher. I was also the department chair for Special Programs. During this time, I completed an Educational Leadership Certificate at the Appalachian State University. It was an honor and privilege to become an Assistant Principal at Carnage Magnet Middle in August 2022.
