• Magnet School of Distinction

     
    In January 2024, East Garner Magnet Middle School was honored by Magnet Schools of America (MSA) as a School of Distinction. This national merit award is based on a commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts, and the consistent delivery of high quality education to students.

    Magnet Schools of America provides leadership for innovative instructional programs that promote equity, diversity, and academic excellence for all students in public school choice programs.

    WCPSS Magnet Programs enhance the Common Core and North Carolina Essential Standards with innovative approaches to learning that maximize student potential. Magnets open doors of opportunity and spark the imagination of students, preparing them to become responsible citizens in a global society.

    In alignment with the WCPSS Strategic Plan academic focus areas of Facilitating High Academic Achievement and Growth for All Students; and Reducing Achievement Gaps, WCPSS Magnet Programs will continue to be an important mechanism helping to:

    • Reduce high concentrations of poverty and support diverse populations
    • Maximize use of school facilities
    • Provide expanded educational opportunities
