Farmington Woods Walker Procedures for 2023-24
(updated 7-25-2023)
As a school located in a neighborhood, we are fortunate that many families are able to walk to and from our campus each day. However, because we are not a pedestrian only campus and also receive cars and buses/vans each day, it is important to have safety procedures in place for all students.
To ensure the safety of all students at dismissal, students WILL NOT be dismissed from the front door between 3:15-3:45 pm.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Arrival Walkers:
-
All walkers must access the school campus by using the sidewalk at the front of the school beginning at the crosswalk on Hampton Valley Road
-
Walkers should only enter at the front doors of the school.
-
Dogs are not allowed on campus- dogs must remain on the public street or sidewalk off campus
-
Students should not arrive on campus until at least 8:45am as there is no adult supervision available.
Dismissal Walkers:
-
Walkers will be dismissed at 3:40pm daily. Families should be ready and waiting by 3:40pm each day.
-
All walkers will have a backpack tag indicating they are a walker- and indicating those with permission to walk without an adult. Please make sure your child’s tag remains on the bookbag.
-
If you are not a “true” walker, please note that parking is very limited and streets are congested from 3:25-3:40pm. Arrive early to avoid having to wait and sign out your student (see below).
-
The Cary Police Department and Kildaire Farm Homeowners Association monitor dismissal and parking of visitors. We ask that our families be good neighbors by not parking on sidewalks, blocking traffic, in yards of neighboring homes or creating crowded street parking during afternoon dismissal. The field and creek across from the school are part of Kildaire Farm and access by FWES families should comply with posted guidelines.
-
Non-school age children must remain with the adult for safety and supervision.
-
-
Walkers who do not have an adult waiting will be sent back to their classroom at 3:45pm
-
Late adults for walkers will need to show photo ID at the front bell camera box to sign out student
-
Consistent late arrival for walkers will require a shift to participation in carpool or after school
-
-
Families are able to give students in 2nd-5th grades permission to walk without an adult. ONLY these students will be allowed to leave the front porch/sidewalk area of the school without an adult.
-
Information to sign up for Walker Permission
-
Walker tags will be added to backpacks on Monday, August 29th during the school day.
-
Students with permission to walk without an adult will be indicated on the tag. Until this form is on file, an adult must be available to meet the student at 3:40pm at the front entrance of the school. The form will lock daily at 12:00 noon.
-
For Safety- Students with permission to walk without an adult will NOT be allowed to walk to the lower parking lot to meet an adult. They will be required to remain on the sidewalk to the crosswalk. DO NOT plan to have your child meet you in the lower lot.
