Academy of Information Technology 

The Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) is a small learning community within Apex High School.  Designed as a four-year high school program, AOIT has an open and equitable student recruitment process that results in a student body that reflects the demographics of the school community.  However, students must be assigned to Apex High School to apply. Once accepted into the program, students remain together throughout their high school years with a core group of specially trained teachers.  The Academy model provides an environment for these teachers to develop interdisciplinary projects that make learning relevant and capture the interest of students. Through hands-on, real-world experiences, the Academy exposes students to careers related to Information Technology.

AOIT places a strong importance on career readiness and post-high school success as the demand for IT professionals increases due to a greater emphasis on AI, cloud computing, big data, and information security. Students enrolled in AOIT have the option to choose from the Design Track or the Computer Science Track. Our Design Track is ideal for students who enjoy digital media and content creation. Within the Design Track, students obtain skills and certifications using the Adobe Creative Suite.  More analytical students may be drawn to our Programming Track and learn programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, and SAS. The skills students learn in the Academy are transferable to any career field. Through experiential learning opportunities, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

Students build future ready skills and social capital through work-based learning experiences. Some of our work-based learning activities include job shadowing, career and college fairs, industry tours, career-related workshops, and networking events. These experiences aid in preparing students for the culminating internship that is completed during their senior year. Check out our Academy Brochure for more information.
