Student Internships
Internships for Juniors & Seniors
Students have an opportunity to complete at least 120 hours of on-the-job experience while working on a project of value. In addition, students are required to reflect upon their experience through journal entries and other assignments. Students will receive high school honors credit. Credit and grades are assigned after the student completes all requirements and submits all work to the Career Development Coordinator. An internship is an experience in which a high school student takes a responsible role as a worker in a company or organization and then reflects on the experience. The Internship Program is a supplement to formal classroom instruction. It intends to significantly add to the instructional program's vitality and impact a student's courses. Most students choose to complete their internship in the summer between their junior and senior years.
Expected outcomes of this experience for the students include:- Increased self-esteem and personal growth derived from successfully meeting new interpersonal and intellectual challenges.
- Acquired new skills and knowledge.
- Increased exposure to various work roles and career choices.
- Increased understanding of the relationship between school-based learning and work experience.
- Increased opportunities for high school students to explore areas of academic career or service interest.
- Development of positive relationships between the internship program, the school, and the community.
Email Stacy Baxley (sbaxley@wcpss.net), Career Development Coordinator, if you have any questions regarding the internship application process.
See the WECIB Internship Application Checklist for more details. STUDENTS: Continue to check the Current Opportunities page for potential internships.

Career Accelerator Summer Program w/$150 stipend
What is Career Accelerator?
Career Accelerator, developed in partnership with the Wake County Public School System, is designed for rising 10th –12th grade WCPSS students. The program seeks to engage students in a deeper understanding and development of workforce readiness, helping students better know themselves and how their current high school trajectory is helping them prepare for the workforce and post-secondary careers.
During the program students rotate between Business 101 instruction: networking, interviewing skills, composing cover letters and CVs, and high-capacity half-day business immersion experiences on-site at workplaces across Wake County. Students can self-identify top business industry sectors they are most interested in engaging with and are then offered immersions with businesses in those areas of interest. By the end of the program, students will walk away with a digital portfolio that will include: a basic resume, basic cover letter template, and certification(s) and micro-credential(s) identified as “industry-ready,” as outlined by the district.
Career Accelerator runs June 23-27, 2025 this year.
Application window closes Feb 14, 2025. Click here to apply.
This program comes with a paid stipend to students of $150, upon participation and completion of the requirements set forth during the program._______________________________________________________________________________________
