• In 2018, MECME embarked on a journey to become a certified Eco-School through the National Wildlife Federation and Eco-Schools USA.  This journey continued over the next couple of years and helped guide our work toward becoming a greener school, both in our actions and our curricula.  Keep up with our work at our National Wildlife Federation Eco-School page.

In 2018-19, we focused our efforts on reducing our consumption and waste production in areas of the school.  Learn more about our Waste Audit here.

Our Green Bees gathered data during the audit.  LOVE the Earth!

Combined with these efforts, was the launch of our composting program in our cafeteria.  Kindergarten through 5th grade students compost their food and lunch trays in our cafeteria at breakfast and lunch!

At the close of the 2018-19 school year, MECME received Bronze Level recognition!

During the 2019-2020 school year, MECME's Eco-Action Team focused on building a strong habitat for wildlife on campus and started the groundwork for energy conservation efforts for years to come.  Due to the abrupt closing of school in March of 2020, EcoSchool efforts halted temporarily, but resumed during the 2020-2021 school year.

In spring of 2021, MECME was awarded the EcoSchool Green Flag!  The most prestigious of Eco-Schools awards, the Green Flag Award is the third of three award levels in the Eco-Schools USA program. To be eligible for the Green Flag Award, a school must follow the Seven Step Framework to complete at least three pathways.

Stay tuned to Twitter and our Facebook page for updates of our ongoing Eco-School journey! You can learn more about our journey as a certified Eco-School here
