• YOUTH LEADERSHIP CARY 2024-2025

    DESCRIPTION OF YOUTH LEADERSHIP CARY

Sponsored by the Cary Chamber of Commerce, the goal of the Youth Leadership Cary (YLC) program is to assist young people in the 11th grade to develop essential leadership skills that will enable them to act responsibly in all aspects of their lives.  Students will meet off-campus monthly (during school) to explore issues of community involvement, team building, and community service.  The program will expose students to topics such as economic development, ethics, state and local government, and business management.  Students will develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills while building bonds and preparing themselves for active, contributing roles in the community. We are looking for two 11th grade students that meet the following criteria:

    • Students must be in the 11th grade as of August of the same school year.

    • Students must be able to miss at least five school days for YLC events during the school year, and have the ability to maintain excellent grades.

    • The program is designed to find students who have the POTENTIAL for leadership, but need that extra push to become a leader in school and community activities.

    • Short interviews will be conducted with the top applicants based on their applications, to assist in the selection process.

    • Those who participate in an outside sports team may find it very difficult, if not impossible, to participate in this program, as YLC students are away from school five full school days, and therefore, students are unable to miss additional days due to sports or other activities.

    • Students must be able to attend ALL Youth Leadership Cary outings, which are held from November through April.
