Teacher Workday - Monday, October 20

Monday, October 20 is a teacher workday for traditional calendar schools.  Students will not report to school.

 

PSAT Make Up Administration - Thursday, October 23 

AFHS will do a make-up administration of the PSAT on Thursday, October 23.  Here are the key details:

  • Students will report to the same locations as our previous attempt at the PSAT last week.

  • Students will have the same schedule on October 23 as previously planned (no Pat Time or Homeroom with first period from 7:25 - 8:52am; second period from 8:57 - 10:42am.

  • Note: There is no opportunity to add additional students to this testing window as we have no additional tests.

Countdown to College Week is This Week!

For families of seniors, we encourage you to review this information about Countdown to College Week.  This week will include a number of events designed to support seniors in moving toward their post-graduation goals.  This is also the week when many colleges and universities are accepting applications with no application fee!  Questions? Quarter 1 Ends October 31 

There are 9 instructional days left in Quarter 1.  Teachers will begin setting reasonable deadlines for missing and make-up work.  Please reach out to individual teachers with questions and feel free to reach out to your student’s counselor / administration as needed.

Student Photo Make-Up Day - October 21 

Students in grades 9-11 will have the opportunity for make-up photographs on October 21.  Picture order forms can be picked up in the front office.  Pictures can also be ordered online at mylifetouch.com using code EVTCHFQP2 for free shipping when ordered by midnight on October 21.  Questions? Career Development News

AFHS is working to greatly expand career development information and opportunities in the 2025-2026.  While we work on the best way to communicate those opportunities, here’s a quick overview of some items coming up.  Questions?   • Oct. 22 - Pat Time Session:  Guilford College Admissions Presentation.  Students can sign up on All Timely.

  • Oct. 24 - Pat Time Session: Career Exploration with Real Estate Agent / Broker.  Students can sign up on All Timely.

  • Oct. 24 - Pat Time Session: Marine Recruiter.  Students can sign up on All Timely.

  • Oct. 25 - Field Trip open to any junior / senior:  Xtreme Beginnings.  Overview / Agenda

Volunteers Needed!

Part of expanding our career development opportunities is acknowledging that we have many potential community partners and experts in particular careers within our AFHS community.  There are a number of events coming for which we need the assistance of community partners and parent volunteers.  Please take a look at this sign up genius to potentially help with the events listed below.  Questions? AP Exam Opt Out

Students who choose to opt out of an AP exam for a fall semester Advanced Placement (AP) course must do so by October 31 using this link.  More information is available in an email sent to students by Ms. Matthews (amatthews@wcpss.net).  (Note: The form link is set up for students to access using their WakeID.)

ASVAB Test Registration

The ASVAB is a career interest assessment available to students in grades 10-12.  It is also the military admissions assessment that is required for any student planning to enter the military.  AFHS administers the ASVAB each semester.  We will do so this fall on November 12.  More Information

PTSA & Booster Club News

Below are updates from our PTSA and Booster Clubs.

 

  • AFHS Band Boosters - Krispy Kreme Fundraiser.  Families can order a voucher for a dozen donuts that can be redeemed at Krispy Kreme.  This effort supports our Band Boosters!  More Information

  • PTSA Membership: Please support your PTSA and become a member! Share your voice, become part of a great community, and help showcase the strength of AFHS! Sign up here
       
  • PTSA Volunteers for Football Games.  Come meet fellow PTSA members and student reps while selling spirit wear and watching the football game on Fri.10/24 from 5:00 - 9:15 pm (2 shifts). Please email spiritwear@afhsptsa.org if you can volunteer and confirm which shift(s) you can help with. As a confirmed volunteer, just show your email confirmation to the gate person at the Back Gate (not the main entrance) closest to the football field.   

  • Senior Signs.  Senior signs sold by the AFHS PTSA are also now on sale for the price of $35. Please contact seniors@afhsptsa.org if you have any questions about pickup. The PTSA Senior Committee Request: monetary donation can be made via Givebacks to support all senior activities throughout this memorable year.


  • Got Sneakers Fundraising: AFHS PTSA is excited to announce that this year we are partnering with GotSneakers for our annual fundraiser!!! Donate your sneakers, save the planet, and help us raise funds — all without lifting more than a foot.  Collection boxes will be placed in the hallways at the bus loop entrance and the carpool entrance plus by the drop off table in the main entrance (between the front doors & main office doors).

  • PTSA Grocery Rewards: an easy way to help your PTSA raise funds.
    • Harris Teeter - Together in Education: Link your VIC card to AFHS PTSA (Code: 3326) online or at checkout. You can link up to 5 schools (must re-link every year). From Aug. 1 - May 31, 2025, Harris Teeter will donate $10 for every HT Plus Membership (trial or paid) when your VIC card is linked.
    • Lowe's Foods - Cart to Class: Link your Fresh Rewards card to AFHS PTSA (search by school name). You can link up to 3 schools. Buy Brown Bag items and 5% of purchases goes to the PTSA!
