Each year our PTA hosts a No Fuss Fundraiser so that the PTA can offer resources and programming for our students and teachers.  Our PTA chooses the No Fuss Fundraiser rather than having students (and families) selling items like gift wrap or coupon books.  If you’ve already supported the PTA fundraiser, THANK YOU.  If you have not yet donated, this is a personal ask that you consider supporting our PTA through a donation.  Details may be found HERE

School is closed on Monday for a teacher workday.  School resumes on Tuesday at 8:15am.

Thanks to North Raleigh Florist who gifted bouquets for our families in carpool last Wednesday.  Petal It Forward is a national initiative hosted by the Society of American Florists (SAF) where local florists give away bouquets of flowers.  It was so much fun to see the smiles than an unexpected gift of flowers brought to our families in carpool! Thanks to Ms. Alawar, manager of North Raleigh Florist and proud parent of 2 Wildcats, for making this possible!

Unity Day:   October is National Anti-Bullying month.  On Wednesday, October 22nd, West Millbrook Magnet Middle School will join with schools across the nation to celebrate Unity Day!  This is a day when all students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear ORANGE to show unity for kindness, acceptance and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.  Please encourage your child(ren) to wear orange clothing and/ or accessories on the 22nd to show their support for this cause!

Late/Missing Work:  October 24 (this Friday) is the last day to submit late or missing work for Quarter 1.  Please review your child’s grades in Infinite Campus and encourage him/her to submit any missing assignments prior to the deadline.

Wildcat Artists Featured at the NC State Fair:  Price Taylor, Madelyn Gault, Zoe Rummage, Barbara Tanabe, Violet Frost and Crosby Miller have work on display at the NC State Fair!  Here’s a sneak peek to entice you to stop by and see it in person.  Thanks to our amazing art teachers – Ms. Cretarolo, Ms. Jones and Mr. Niwa – for guiding our students’ artistic talents and for showcasing their work!

     Pictures from the fair

Make Up Picture Day is Thursday, October 23.  Contact Assistant Head of School Gary Robinson at grobinson5@wcpss.net or 919 870-4050 x 24296 with questions.

Fall Parent/Family Conference Night is October 23.  Team scheduled conferences are from 4pm – 5:45pm and parent requested conferences are from 5:45pm – 7:00pm.

SEL Behavior Universal Screener - All schools in WCPSS will be screening students using the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System-2 or BIMAS-2.  The BIMAS-2 is a research-based screening tool that assists in identifying students who may be at risk of future academic, behavioral, or emotional difficulties. West Millbrook staff will screen our students in the coming weeks.

Attached is the letter your student received in BeIB last week. If you would like to opt your child out of the BIMAS-2 screener for the 2025-2026 school year, please fill out the form included in the letter and return it to your child's Be IB teacher no later than October 22nd. Please reach out to your student's grade level counselor with questions.

Congratulations to Year 1 for winning the coveted Spirit Stick during Spirit Week.  It was a tightly contested competition with the first ever run-off required to name the winning grade level!  It’s a great time to be a Wildcat!

Congratulations to all Year 2 and Year 3 scholars who received an invitation to join the Junior Beta Club from their BIB teacher last week! Information on how to apply can be found on the Beta Club Canvas page. The link to join is included on the invitations. Applications are due by Friday, October 24th. No late applications will be accepted. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Boykin-Rogers in Room 1204. Good luck to all applicants!

Say Something: All students will receive training in the Say Something app and anonymous reporting system over the next 2 weeks. More information can be found here: Say Something

Year 3 Families:  The  Magnet and Early College High School applications have opened. If your Year 3  student is currently at WMMMS as a magnet student and they wish to continue the magnet pathway for high school, you will want to read the attached documents (flyers with Info session/Fair dates, Open House opportunities and application instructions) and take action soon.

Magnet Application Window: October 15 - January 22

Early College Application Window: October 15 - December 12

What are Early College High Schools and why should my student consider this option?

    • They are small, student-centered schools that focus on college readiness and career prep
    • Earn a high school diploma and free college credits towards an associate's degree
    • College credits are transferrable to all North Carolina public universities

Ms. Wheeler is posting information about each Early College High School option in the Year 3 Canvas classroom over the next two weeks. Ask your student to share it with you!

Spirit Week 2025 has been a fun week with lots of participation from all three grade levels (students and teachers!) Currently the totals are very close and any grade level at this point could win the Spirit Stick to display on their floor for this school year!  Spirit Week ends on Tuesday with the Spirit Run (during 6th period) and the annual Clash of the Cats football game against Carroll Middle School at Sanderson High School.  Please note it is difficult to locate individual students during the Spirit Run so please plan to come early if you need to check your student out of school on Tuesday.

Clash of the Cats pits your West Millbrook Wildcats against magnet rival Carroll Middle School in another night game under the lights.  Join us at Sanderson High School on Tuesday night at 6:30pm for a great game under the lights!  Let's pack those stands and show them which magnet school reigns!

Open House/Meet the Teacher is Thursday, September 11 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm. Families may park in front of the media center, auditorium and gym. Families may also park on the other side of the football field (baseball/softball field parking).  Please do NOT park on the grass or sidewalks.

Parents/Guardians will begin the evening in the gym promptly at 5:30pm.

Classroom visits will begin at 5:50pm and conclude at 7:00pm.

Parents/Guardians will need to bring a copy of their student’s schedule (including teacher names and room numbers).  Consider having your student write this information down for you or screenshotting it from your parent portal or their Infinite Campus site.

Parents/Guardians may visit their child’s classrooms in the order they wish.  Some families may choose to follow their child’s schedule while other parents/guardians may elect to visit classes that are close together (think core classes which will all be on the same hallway) and then visit classes that are spread throughout the building (arts, design, language acquisition, PHE).  We will not ring bells or visit classes on a scheduled rotation.

Our PTA will have spiritwear on sale from 5:00pm – 7:00pm near the front lobby in front of the elevators so stop by to purchase some Wildcat swag!

Carpool Reminders: Drivers should be alert and may not use cell phones in the loading/unloading zone.  Drivers must follow directions of staff on duty.  After school carpool ends at 3:30pm and all students must be picked up no later than 3:30pm.

Afternoon Carpool:  Pull all the way forward to the flagpole area as directed by staff, leaving enough room between your car and the car in front of you to pull around.  When your student is safely in your car, pull left and around cars still waiting for their students.

Student absences:  If your student is absent from school, please email attendance608@wcpss.net  Include your name, your student’s name, the date(s) of the absence, the reason for the absence and your phone number.  Our attendance team will code the absence in Infinite Campus.

School is closed on Monday, September 1 for the Labor Day Holiday.  School resumes on Tuesday at 8:15am.

Great First Week:  Students, parents, families and teachers were awesome last week.  Laughter and smiles filled our classrooms, cafeteria and hallways.  Thank you!  I am so impressed by the kindness and politeness our students demonstrate.  It was a joy to visit their classrooms and see them intently engaged in learning.

Carpool Reminders: Drivers should be alert and may not use cell phones in the loading/unloading zone.  Drivers must follow directions of staff on duty.  Afternoon  carpool ends at 3:30pm and all students must be picked up no later than 3:30pm.

Morning Carpool:  Unloading is single file and cars do NOT pull around other cars.  Please pull all the way forward with only a short distance between your car and the car in front of you so we can fit 6 cars in the front unloading zone and 4 cars in the side unloading zone.  Students should unload in both unloading zones following the directions of staff on duty.  One note:  students may not exit cars in front of the metal gates (near corner of building) due to safety reasons.  We have the gate marked by YELLOW cones and we try to stop drivers if there isn’t enough room on the other side of the gate for student exit.  Finally, your children are a pleasure in the morning.  They greet staff on carpool duty as they head to the building and are happy!   It’s a great way to start our day!

Afternoon Carpool:  Pull all the way forward to the flagpole area as directed by staff, leaving enough room between your car and the car in front of you to pull around.  When your student is safely in your car, pull left and around cars still waiting for their students.  Afternoon  carpool ends at 3:30pm and all students must be picked up no later than 3:30pm.

Student absences:  If your student is absent from school, please email attendance608@wcpss.net  Include your name, your student’s name, the date(s) of the absence, the reason for the absence and your phone number.  Our attendance team will code the absence in Infinite Campus.

Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated September 1 – 5.  West Millbrook appreciates our substitute teachers who support our school and students so well!

New District Cell Phone Policy Cell phones and personal communication devices must be turned off/silenced and put away from the time students arrive on campus until students are dismissed by their last period teacher.  “Put away” means out of sight and not easily accessible (in a bookbag/locker). Devices may NOT be in pockets of student clothing (pants pocket, hoodie pocket, etc).  Students may not display, use or make devices available during the school day.

Class Change Requests: Students may complete a choice/elective course change request 9/8 - 9/10.  The form and instructions will be available in the grade level Canvas classroom on the 8th.  Please understand that a request is not a guarantee that a change will be made.  Many classes are already full.  Counselors will do their best to accommodate changes.  Students will be notified of decisions by 9/15.

Please consider supporting the WMMS Athletic teams via a Corporate or Family Sponsorship for the 2025-26 school year.   How does your donation help?

Since the operating budget for our athletic program is significantly higher than what we are allocated by WCPSS, we rely on sponsorships and fundraising to achieve our goals.

This year, your donations will be put toward awning shades for our softball field dugouts, stipends for assistant coaches and first responders, updated equipment, maintenance for our beautiful fields, year 3 athlete banners, end of season team parties and other team needs as they arise.
