Social Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. PURPOSE
HMS will be attentive to students’ emotional states, guide students in managing their emotions, and arrange for supports and interventions when necessary. We seek to build an appreciation of self and one another while developing skills to succeed academically and socially in life.
Why “SEL”? What does SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL LEARNING mean?
- Social - we live, work and play surrounded by other people- we all need to learn how to get along with others, especially with people who have different viewpoints than yours.
- Emotional - Learn how to be aware of, control and express your emotions effectively. If you want others to like you, than you need to like yourself first! =Self awareness & compassion.
- Learning - through monthly meetings we will learn how to take better care of ourselves and interact successfully with others.
