• What is Career & College Promise?

    Wake Tech’s Career & College Promise (CCP) program offers eligible high school students the opportunity to earn credits toward a college degree or a credential for employment – tuition-free. In many cases, students earn dual credit, meeting high school graduation requirements with college courses.

    CCP offers students the opportunity to explore more than 40 academic programs, saving them and their families money on college tuition while also lightening their future course load in college. Students get a feel of the "college experience," and they can boost their admissions profile by demonstrating they are ready for the rigors of college-level classes.

    For students not interested in pursuing a college degree, CCP provides a jump-start to career plans, job training, skills and certifications.

    What classes can I take as part of the CCP program?

    The Career & College Promise program (CCP) provides two pathways for students:

    • College Transfer pathways are designed for high school students who wish to begin earning college credit towards Wake Tech's University Transfer degree programs – Associate in Arts, Associate in Engineering, Associate in Science or Associate in Fine Arts – which are intended for eventual transfer to a four-year college or university. The pathways include courses prescribed in the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for transferring credits from North Carolina community colleges to UNC System institutions.
       
    • Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways lead to a certificate or diploma aligned with a high school career cluster. It is designed for students who want to work toward the completion of a credential before graduating from high school. Email Career & College Promise staff at ccp@waketech.edu with questions on what is needed for these courses.

      The Nurse Aide, Medical Assisting and Cosmetology CTE pathways have limited seating and a different registration process for courses. All three pathways require CCP staff collaboration with the department to register students, and they may have additional costs not covered by the department or CCP.

    What are the academic requirements to participate in CCP?

    Career and Technical Education pathway eligibility

      • A high school junior or senior who meets one of the following:
      • Has an unweighted, cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher on high school courses
      • Demonstrates college readiness in English, reading and mathematics on an assessment 
      • Has the recommendation of the high school principal or designee and a memo detailing his or her rationale in place of the GPA requirement

    NOTE: All students must meet course prerequisites before registration. 

    College Transfer pathway eligibility

    A high school junior or senior who meets one of the following:

        • Has an unweighted, cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher on high school courses
        • Demonstrates college readiness in English, reading and mathematics on an assessment (see table below)

    NOTE: All students must meet course prerequisites before registration. 

    Maintaining eligibility

    To remain in the CCP program, a student must meet the following requirements: 

        • Continues to progress toward high school graduation
        • Maintains a GPA of 2.0 or higher in college coursework after completing two course

    How do CCP courses impact my high school GPA? 

    • College Transfer Pathway: Courses 3SHC (Semester Hour of Credit)  and above carry 1 extra quality point added towards the high school GPA.  Courses taken under this pathway WILL be added to your high school transcript, regardless of the grade received. 
    • Career & Technical Education - Courses 3SHC and above carry the added point value referenced in the highlighted chart below regarding GPA (Standard = 0 added, Honors = .5 added, College/AP = 1 point added).  Courses taken under this pathway WILL be added to your high school transcript, regardless of the grade received. (Click here to review the course weights)

    Enrollment Announcements/Alerts

    The Summer & Fall 2025 Enrollment Cycle will begin early Spring 2025.  Listed below are key dates and useful tips.

    • Spring 2025 dates and deadlines
      • September 16: Enrollment cycle information available
      • September 23: Enrollment forms available (New Student Application and Continuing Student Form)
      • October 21: Course schedule opens
      • November 4: Self-registration for courses begins at 7 a.m.
      • November 11: College closed
      • November 15: CCP enrollment forms submission deadline
      • November 28-29: College closed
      • December 1: Self-registration deadline at 11:59 p.m.
      • December 1: Waitlist drop deadline
      • December 23 - January 1: College closed
      • January 2: Course Request form opens at 9 a.m.
      • January 8: First day of class for the 16-week and first eight-week sessions
      • January 10: 12 p.m. course Request deadline (last day to request courses for all sessions, as the registration cycle ends)
      • January 13: 4 p.m. deadline to drop a class without a "W" grade for the first eight-week session
      • January 17: 4 p.m. deadline to drop a class without a "W" grade for the 16-week session
      • January 20: College closed
      • February 6: First day of class for the 12-week session
      • February 11: Last day to drop class with a "W" grade for the first eight-week session
      • February 13: Last day to drop class without a "W" grade for the 12-week session
      • March 5: Last day of class for the first eight-week session
      • March 6: First day of class for the second eight-week session
      • March 11: 4 p.m. deadline to drop a class without a "W" grade for the second eight-week session
      • March 24: Last day to drop a class with a "W" grade for the 16-week session
      • April 3: Last day to drop a class with a "W" grade for the 12-week session
      • April 15: Last day to drop with a "W" grade for the second eight-week session
      • May 9: Last day of class for the 16-week, 12-week and second eight-week sessions
