National Junior Honor Society

  • NJHS Logo

  • The purpose of the National Junior Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote leadership, and develop character in secondary school students. Membership in a local chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student and is based on outstanding Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue demonstrating these qualities in both school and community settings.

Being a member of NJHS is a special recognition that honors not only academic success, but also character and dedication to others. Built on the pillars of Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship, NJHS challenges students to live out these values daily. Membership is not simply recognition for past accomplishments. It is a commitment to making a positive difference.

  • Maintaining NJHS Membership
To remain an active member of the Wendell Magnet Middle School NJHS chapter, students must:
    • Maintain A and B averages on report cards
    • Remain in good behavioral standing with all WMMS staff and administration
    • Avoid disciplinary write-ups
    • Complete required community service hours
    • Pay annual NJHS membership dues
    • Attend at least two of the four scheduled NJHS meeting dates

    Annual Membership Dues
NJHS members are required to pay yearly dues to support chapter activities, service projects, leadership opportunities, and recognition events. Payments can be made online via https://wcpss.schoolcashonline.com
    • 7th Grade Students: $20
    • 8th Grade Students: $10

    Community Service Expectations
Service means willingly giving your time and effort to make a positive difference in someone else’s life. Service hours must be unpaid volunteer work and cannot be required for a class or part of regular family responsibilities.

Due to the timing of this year’s induction ceremony, required service hours have been adjusted:
    • 7th Grade: Minimum of 10 service hours
    • 8th Grade: Minimum of 15 service hours

Students must submit a new Google Form for each service activity completed. Deadline to submit all service hours: Wednesday, May 27th, 2026. We encourage students to complete their hours prior to this date.

All students are expected to attend at least two of the scheduled meetings. Please see the table below for your particular grade level.
