Dr. Curtis Brower
Principal
Curtis Brower is serving his first year as principal at Durant Road Middle School. Prior to this year, he was the proud principal of Powell Center for Play and Ingenuity Magnet Elementary School since 2014. He is a native of Pennsylvania and moved to North Carolina to teach. He has been in education for over 20 years, serving as an elementary teacher, assistant principal and principal. Prior to being appointed as the principal at Durant Road MS, Dr. Brower served as an assistant principal and principal at three WCPSS Magnet schools. He holds a BS degree in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University, a master’s in School Administration degree from North Carolina State University, a 6th Year Advanced Education Specialist degree from North Carolina State University, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from North Carolina State University.
Dr. Brower possesses a deep passion for the arts and a strong commitment to innovative education. His enthusiasm is evident in the way he delights in seeing the arts come alive within the school community. Dr. Brower takes great joy in watching students actively engage in hands-on learning experiences and participate in design challenges that stimulate their creativity and critical thinking skills
His approach to education emphasizes the importance of experiential learning, where students learn by doing and exploring. This philosophy not only enhances their understanding but also fosters a love for learning. Central to his educational vision is the promotion of a growth mindset, encouraging students to embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, and see effort as a path to mastery.
Dr. Brower is particularly excited about his return to the middle school setting, where he looks forward to implementing programs and activities that integrate the arts and innovation. He is eager to create an environment where students can thrive and develop a lifelong appreciation of education and the value of creative problem-solving.
Dr. Brower is married to his wife, Allison, who is also a WCPSS school principal. He is the proud father of Andrew, a WCPSS graduate, and Caroline, a WCPSS HS Junior, and the family dog, Toby. Dr. Brower loves to travel and try new restaurants. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors, listening to and playing music. Dr. Brower loves the Penn State Nittany Lions and The Pennsylvania State University Marching Blue Band, where he played trumpet for four years. He is also an avid follower of NC State athletics.
