• Facts About Carroll Magnet Middle School

     

    ATHLETICS - Carroll offers a variety of sports for students in 7th and 8th grade: basketball, volleyball, soccer, football, cheerleading, softball, and track. Students in 6th grade can participate as “managers”.

     

    CLUBS - Clubs are curriculum and non-curriculum based. Non-curriculum clubs are 100% created and run by students. Most clubs start in September.

     

    COMMUNICATION - Parents receive a weekly message from the principal. Talking Points is used to share grade-level newsletters and information. Email and/or phone calls are used for individual student communication.

     

    COVEY’S HABITS - Covey’s 7-Habits are explicitly taught Monday’s during our Smart Block. Habits are also incorporated throughout the school day.

     

    DEMOGRAPHICS - 2% Asian, 32% Black, 29% Hispanic, 31% White, 5% Multiracial

     

    DEVICES- Students are allowed to bring a cell phone to school but it has to be locked in their lockers for the entirety of the school day. Fully charged laptops should be brought to school daily. Only wired headphones are permitted.

     

    ELECTIVES - Students participate in two electives a day; approximately 12 different electives are offered

     

    GRADING - CMMS uses Standards-Based Grading but all points convert into InfiniteCampus for families to easily view a student’s progress.

     

    HOMEWORK - If students have unfinished work from class, they will be asked to complete it for homework. Homework time will not exceed 90 min. per day.

     

    MATH at CMMS - Students are automatically placed in 6+ math in 6th grade. Math 7, Math 7+, Math 8, and Math 1 are also offered. Math II is offered virtually.

     

    PERSONALIZED and DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING - Students are challenged and supported during all core classes, 40-minute Smart block, clubs, AIG quarterly pull-outs, intervention groups, and our elective classes.

     

    PTO - CMMS has an active Parent Teacher Organization which holds community building events and supports students and staff throughout the year

     

    SCHOOL SIZE - Approx 900 students; about 300 students on each grade level. Approximately 25 students in each core class

     

    SCHOOL DAY - The school day is from 7:30 AM to 2:15 PM and CMMS follows a traditional school calendar.

     

    SMART BLOCK - This is a 40-minute period for personalized learning (support and/or enrichment opportunities), Covey Habit integration, and clubs.

     

    STEM - Technology is embedded into all the core classes to enhance the grade level standards. There are also a variety of electives and clubs that support our STEM initiative.

     

    STUDENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT - CMMS has pep rallies, school dances, after-school social events, student-led nights, musicals, and more!
