PULSE (Participation, Understanding, Leadership, Scholarship and Excellence) is an enrichment and remediation experience for freshmen and sophomores. It is also an opportunity for them to learn and practice the skills of collaboration, time management, and self-advocacy.

Metacognition Monday
Metacognitive activities encourage students to reflect on the work they are doing and the way they are presenting themselves as early college students. Students engage in group discussions, reading selections, academic and personal goal setting, and character education. Students build close relationships with faculty and develop strong friendships with fellow students.

Triage Tuesday
PULSE teachers meet with half of his/her PULSE students each week to check in on academic progress and social/emotional status and connect students with resources as needed.

Empower Hour/Wake Tech & WakeMed Wednesdays
Students eat for one half of Empower Hour and work on academic pursuits for the other half. Students can collaborate with other students, work on assignments, visit the library, study, or meet with teachers.
Teachers work with students individually or in small groups to reteach and reassess standards and objectives that have not yet been mastered.
On many Wednesdays students will have the opportunity to participate in health- and science-related experiences set up by our CDC. Check the Student Activities Calendar for details.

On many Fridays teachers work collaboratively to plan. When a teacher has no scheduled PLT meeting, s/he will be available to work with students. (See Student Calendar for the meeting schedule.)
