The English curriculum provides students with essential life skills necessary for college and career readiness. Aligned with the Common Core State Standards, the Heritage High School English program is divided into four strands: reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language. Through a variety of activities, projects, and assessments students will continuously work to strengthen these concepts as they strive to be critical thinkers and effective communicators. 

 

Healthful Living students will learn the importance of making healthy choices during their teen years and throughout their lives. Topics are covered during four, two-week units. Students will also learn and enjoy physical movement with confidence while they partake in a variety of physical activities during P.E.

 

P.E. (elective) students will be engaged in moderate to vigorous activities throughout the year. These activities are in line with the State Framework, State Standards, and District Curriculum.

The Common Core Standards outline the expectations for the students. In general, what this means is an adjustment from the traditional course sequence of Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II to an integrated math model with the sequence of Math 1, Math 2, and Math 3. The students will move from these courses into our traditional 4th math course options, which include Math 4/Honors Math 4 and Honors Pre-Calculus.  

 

Students that are preparing to enter college are required to take Math 1, Math 2, Math 3 and one additional course. Students may also choose to take a 5th level math course including AP Calculus, AP Statistics, and Discrete Math for Computer Programming.
