WHY PARENT COUNSELING
Parenting can be a very fulfilling experience, but it can also be one of the most difficult and stressful aspects of a person’s life. Parents are responsible for their child’s daily needs, in addition to being responsible for helping each of their children develop life skills, social skills, appropriate behaviors, and attain learning/education goals. Parents must also be in tune with the unique personality of each child. In short, parenting can often feel overwhelming.WHO CAN RECEIVE PARENT COUNSELING
Project Enlightenment provides individual parent education/counseling services to Wake County families with children birth through kindergarten age. Most services are provided at the Project Enlightenment facility. However, services may be provided virtually or off-site when transportation issues or other circumstances present obstacles.HOW WE PROVIDE PARENT COUNSELING
Our individual counseling services are based on a solution-focused educational model involving the following: assessment of needs; a collection of relevant data; and education/counseling around the referral concerns. There is no cost for parent counseling. A typical parent counseling session lasts about an hour. Referrals and resources will be provided for those families whose needs exceed the limited intervention model offered.Project Enlightenment counselors utilize various modalities, including Triple P to help parents meet their goals. In addition, our parent educators/counselors have many years of experience with supporting families through the myriad of challenges that arise while raising young children. Our main objective is to provide specific interventions that will increase the child's success in his/her home and school environments. We also help parents gain valuable parenting skills.
