Communication
One of our goals is to partner with you to develop your young mans self-advocacy skills so that he can serve as your primary point of communication about his performance in school. However, we understand that is a process they will grow into over the course of High School and as such, we have a couple of key resources to help with communication. The Power School Parent Portal provides parents with detailed, up-to-date information about student grades and attendance. Google Classroom will be used by all teachers to communicate upcoming assignments and due dates. Remember, Google Classroom is for before the assignment is due, Power School is for after it is due and has been graded. Students will learn everything they need to know about these tools during the first weeks of school and information for parents will be sent directly from the teacher either via e-mail or in the class syllabus/parent letter. We also use Class Dojo as system for recognizing students for demonstrating our school-wide RISE expectations (Respect, Integrity, Safety, and Effort). Parents can learn more about Class Dojo by following the appropriate link under the parents tab.If you need to speak with one or more of your son’s teachers, please feel free to email one or more teachers directly by finding their e-mail from the staff directory. If you contact an individual teacher with a specific question about that class, you will receive a response from that teacher within 24 hours. If you email one or more of the team of teachers with a general question about several classes, one teacher will respond on behalf of the entire team. We are all in this together - parents, students, and teachers - with the same goal of helping your young man achieve his best. We look forward to working with you and your young man towards that shared goal. -
Electronic Devices (Including Cell Phones)
At WYMLA we are fortunate to have a large number of technology devices to support learning as well as a BYOD policy which allows students to bring their own devices. To help students understand how to manage these devices we use a red light-green light process with cards displayed in the room so students are aware of the device expectation.Green Light: Devices may be out and in use for academic purposes.Yellow Light: Ask the teacher if it is okay to use your device.Red light: No electronic devices, including headphones of any kind, may be out at this time. -
