• A Historical Perspective of Project Enlightenment

    50 Plus Years Strong!

“To build a strong foundation for every child” is the mission of the Office of Early Learning of Wake County Public School System. Project Enlightenment offers prevention services and works in tandem within the Office of Early Learning to offer high-quality programs and developmentally appropriate supports to ensure the success of the whole child.

Project Enlightenment, established in 1969, continues to be dedicated to promoting children’s success in school and life and provides a unique blend of quality early childhood services to the Wake County community.  These comprehensive services are provided for young children and their families, teachers in childcare centers, and preschools in Wake County, and to other adults and community groups who are involved in the lives of young children.

Services include classroom consultation, developmental screenings, demonstration preschool classrooms, a home visiting program, teacher in-service workshops, parent education classes and counseling, consultation and training for early childhood professionals.  The Project Enlightenment Parent Teacher Resource Center houses a wealth of early childhood education books, articles and materials for parents, teachers and children. The staff includes educators, child development specialists, psychologists and counselors.
